Wouter Wynen joins X Factory team

X Factory announces that Wouter Wynen, recent winner of the Belgian GP, has signed to drive the American company’s unique products through the end of 2013. “I’m so happy to have Wouter on the Team at last,” said company spokesman Chazz Sinclair. “He has been a top competitor in the BeNeLux series and all over Europe for many years, and we are glad to have his knowledge and experience working for us.  We have wanted him to join us for more than a year, and expect him to be a great help developing and testing new products.” Wynen said,

I tested several different cars this spring in preparation for the BeNeLux series and the GP, both mid-motor and rear-, on both astro and dirt.  The X-6 Squared is not the newest of them, but is clearly fastest on all surfaces. Smooth and collected, very easy to control, especially in corners and over bumps. I was truly amazed at the difference.

The third stop of the JConcepts Indoor National series made the trip to Outback Raceway in Chico, CA. The facility, otherwise known as A-Main Hobbies, is a 1:10 scale racers’ paradise. The dirt surface is amazing, there is minimal tire wear, the layout was flowing and the traction was hooked up. Then to top if off, all of A-Main Hobbies’ massive inventory is available at the click of a mouse. Team Associated made the trip up north with Steven Hartson and Brent Thielke and was joined by Jason Ruona and Tanner Denney for JConcepts. In the 2011 edition of this race, NorCal local Eric Albano was just a privateer. Fast forward to 2012 and he’s now a Reedy Race Touring Car Open Class champion for Team Associated and with a year under his belt with off-road vehicles making consistent top regional a-main events. Not to be forgotten is a return to RC for Seattle native, John Walentia.

Patrick Nähr wins South German Champs Rd5

The 5th round of the South German Championship took place at the nice track of Türkheim. In total 59 drivers attended the event with 26 of them racing in 1/10 nitro touring. Former European B-Champion Patrick Nähr was in good form and placed his Sonic powered Velox V10 on the first position in qualifying. In the semi-final he was unchallenged and took an easy win securing himself the second position in the starting grid of the 30 minutes main final. The start of the final saw an intense battle between Nähr and Dominic Greiner but after some minutes into the race Nähr took over the lead and increased the gap step by step. As Greiner was hit by technical problems later on Nähr slowed down a little bit and cruised to the victory finishing 4 laps in front of Steve Baumgarten with Thomas Schlee completing the podium.

Lamberto Collari wins Rd2 of Italian 1/8th series

Round 2 of the Italian 1/8th scale on road National Championships were held in Bologna recently where the temperature touched 40 degrees with the track close to 67 degrees. The temperatures were prohibitive for both engines and the cars themselves but it was a useful test ahead of the European Championships which are held this year in Portugal, where temperatures will be even higher. Pole position went to Andrea Pirani followed closely by Lamberto Collari in 2nd with Dario Balestri and Carmine Raiola completing the top 4 direct finalists. The final started with Pirani in the lead followed by Collari but after about 8 minutes Collari was already in the lead with about an 8 seconds advantage ahead of Raiola. The 9 times World champion was steady in his performance and after about 20 minutes had a 2 laps lead. During the final mechanical and engine problems, due to hot weather, plagued other competitors but not Collari with his Novarossi powered Capricorn and at the end of 45 minutes won by 3 laps ahead of Alberto Tedeschi in 2nd with Walter Salemi completing the podium in 3rd.
