JConcepts RM2 B6.4 precut chassis protective sheet

JConcepts has release this RM2 pre-cut chassis protective sheet for the B6.4. A high-end item used for many years on the performance side of RC racing is the chassis protective sheet. While it’s not easy to re-invent the chassis sheet, JConcepts, along with Ryan Maifield, now offer a newly designed protective sheet for the latest Team Associated vehicle. The heavy-duty and pre-cut item has the latest RM2 graphics incorporated into the scheme with subdued background imagery. The 2-piece design includes 3 extra rear chassis pieces and a selection of pre-cut decals scattered throughout. After a tough race weekend, there will be no excuses and “no apologies” with this design. The “no apologies” tag line is printed full colour to dedicate this item to the racers who wear their heart on their sleeve. With 2 pieces included per package, the durable and resilient material fits each chassis layout like a glove and adds protection and style in one easy package.

Steel City R/C Speedway to close

Sadly it has been announced that Steel City R/C Speedway in Fontana, California, is to close at the end of the 2022 season.  Located on the grounds of Auto Club Speedway which has hosted NASCAR annually since 1997, redevelopment of the site means the RC track with its trademark red infield will no longer be.  Having just hosted the 1:5 World Championships, in the five years it has operated the track has hosted some of the sport’s biggest races including the 1:8 Onroad World Championship and the last Touring Car Reedy Race of Champions, both in 2019.  With Red RC having attending both these events, it was a great pleasure to deal with Kyle Goodwine and his family who were the visionaries behind this amazing track.  We are pleased to hear the Goodwine’s are already looking at a new location to keep the SCS name and its red infield alive and we look forward to paying it a visit to report on a major event there.

In qualifying it was Marius Hetland who secured the TQ with his fastest time from the six rounds of qualifying coming in Round 5. Also setting his best time in Q5, 2013 Champion Feldmann qualified P2 to book his place directly into the 1-hour A-Main. Having qualified 6th, track owner Kyle Goodwine would win the first of the Semi Finals ahead of 2019 Champion Marko Grigic and Martelli Gianmarco. In the 2nd Semi Final, pole sitter Andrea Catalani would retire from the lead with less than 10 minutes to go allowing Edoardo Repetti to take the win ahead of Austin Sarnelle. The 11th running of the championship, in the final Feldmann would go to the front after just a few laps and while Hetland got back to the lead twice, Feldmann stayed at the front for the second half of the race to take the title. Enjoying a strong performance on home soil, Goodwine would finish on the same lap as Feldmann to become Vice-Champion with Martelli Gianmarco third for an all Mecatech podium.  Hetland would eventually finish 5th after late issues.

Having waited 4-years, Bruno Coelho has successful defended his ISTC World Championship Title with yet another dominant drive in A-Main No.2 in Gubbio, Italy.  Topping the time sheets from the first time cars hit the track on Wednesday and right through the event, Coelho again won A2 from Christopher Krapp to become to retain the crown he won in South Africa in 2018.  A driver who has faced much allegations regarding his speed advantage on this track, the Portuguese driver took shot at his detractors saying, ‘It is a huge relief not only for the World Title but almost for all “the haters” who are not able to understand the hard work behind this result’.  Winning A3 from 9th place starter Marc Rheinard, Christopher Krapp would finally get his much deserved first World Championship podium finish with the Top 3 for the 11th running of the championship being completed by Akio Sobue.

Duchet is inaugural Spec World Champion

Alexandre Duchet is the inaugural ISTC Spec Touring Car World Champion.  Having taken the TQ in Gubbio, the Xray driver didn’t make the ideal start to the finals day as he handed arch-rival Simon Lauter an easy win when he made a mistake on lap 2 of A1.  This allowed the Awesomatix of second place qualifier Simon Lauter to take A1.  A2 was a better effort from the Frenchman as he stayed at the front and posted the fastest lap of the race to finish 7/10ths in front and set the stage for an expected A3 showdown.
