Merlin Depta wins German North Rd3

The 3rd round of the North German regionals and a German national qualification round took place in Hildesheim last week. There were 23 racers in attendance and after qualifying it was Jens Stark on pole followed by Lars Hoppe, Juergen Stark and Michael Paetz taking the direct final qualifying spots. After the 30 minute final it was 17 year old Serpent driver Merlin Depta who would claim his first regional win, 6 laps ahead of 2nd place Michael Paetz with Friedrich Roehrs in 3rd.

Campos takes Brazilian 1/10th title

The 4th round of the 1/10th scale Brazilian touring car National Championships took place recently at the Fazenda Vesuvio in Sao Paulo. Mugen racer Leandro Campos took the TQ in qualifying and was able to win the 45 minute race by a lap from Xray driver Chung Min Hsu in 2nd with another Mugen driver Marcos Mayer in 3rd. This win confirmed Campos as the Brazilian Champion for 2008.

Arthur Eelen wins Belgian Blackjack race

Last Sunday saw the annual Blackjack race held in Belgium. Open to 1/8th scale off road cars it uses a Reedy style format where there are only finals, 3 to be exact and all of them 21 minutes long, hence the race name. The length of the finals, astroturf surface and pit strategy tactics meant racing was very close. Arthur Eelen managed to take the win in the Truggy class driving his Associated RC8T ahead of Losi driver Kris Verlies in 2nd and Bas de Konink in 3rd with a HongNor.

Cragg & Lowe win Worksop Indoor Rd2

oOple are reporting on the 2nd round of the Schumacher Indoor Off Road Masters series held at the fantastic Worksop venue. With an expanded entry of 150 drivers split between 2WD and 4WD classes, it was even more hotly contested than the previous round. Danny McGee took the TQ in 2WD with the Losi XXXCR but after a tough and intense battle it was Neil Cragg that managed to take the win. Previous round winner Tom Yardy came in second and local hero James Helliwell 3rd. Four different drivers and four different chassis’ each won a round during 4WD qualifying – Simon Moss, Paul Bradby, Richard Lowe and Danny McGee. It was Worksop regular and indoor-specialist Richard Lowe that took overall TQ however. Unlike the exciting 2WD A-final, Richard stamped his authority early and never looked back, leading the race from start to finish with his JConcepts BJ4we to take an impressive win ahead of Grant Williams in 2nd and Nathan Waters 3rd.

Maifield & Root take AZ State Champs

We received the following report from JConcepts on the Arizona State Championships, which were hosted recently by Scottsdale R/C Speedway (SRS), home of the Cactus Classic. JConcepts factory team drivers Ryan Maifield, Frank Root, and Tanner Denney all made it out for the 3 day event and put on a show. In 1/8 buggy, Ryan was on a mission. Still showing the #1 decals on his car from the World’s, Ryan drove like he was not willing to take them off, TQ’ing every round of qualifying and going on to win the main convincing by several laps to prove how fast the new JConcepts Crossbow tires are.

Flavio Elias is Brazilian 1/8th Champion

Flavio Elias is the 2008 Brazilian 1:8 Champion after he dominated the final round of the national championship over the weekend with record breaking performance driving his Serpent 960 08. Having just signed for Team Serpent Brazil, Elias was immmediately able to set a blistering pace in qualifying, TQ’ing the event with a record run of 19 laps in 5:09.437. Also setting a new outright track record with a lap time of 15.788 over the weekend, in the final Elias set yet another new record putting in 158 laps in 45:10.357 on his way to victory.

Ian Haley joins VP Pro Racing

VP Pro Racing have announced that Xray factory driver Ian Haley from Australia has joined the VP Pro International Team. VP Pro are proud that Ian has decided to join their team, putting trust in their products, trust which is already paying off with Ian using his new tires to win the recent 2008 Proline Championships in Sydney.

Alex Cucalon wins Ecuadorian Nationals

The Copa Gobierno Provincial el Oro, or Ecuadorian Nationals, took place recently in Machala el Oro Ecuador and 40 drivers from around the country gathered at this technical track where engine performance and setup is very important. Qualifying saw Kyosho driver Pablo Saltiveri that the pole position but in the race it was Mugen driver Alex Cucalon that won by 2 laps from team mates Geovani Schweitzer in 2nd and Jorge Cucalon in 3rd.
