Deon Gove takes SA National Championship title

Deon Gove takes SA National Championship title

Midrand Offroad RC club in Johannesburg recently played host to the second round of the South African 1/8th Off-road National Championship. With the 2016 season being a 2-rounds affair and both counting towards the overall result the pressure was on for the top drivers. Friday saw the start of open practice before qualifying would start on Saturday. In Electric Buggy the championship would more than likely be contested by the top 4 drivers with Deon Gove leading over Aksay Patel due to a tie break at the first round at APN in Durban. Unfortunately Thomas Schmuck had to withdraw his entry and would not be able to defend his 2015 title at the final event. Quintis Van der Merwe would have an outside chance to take the overall championship as two new comers to E-Buggy would join for the final round. Both Dean Steenmans and Tiaan Oelofse, top nitro contenders, could split the tight field and rearrange the final points standing.

Claus Ryeskov wins at Danish 200mm National Rd3

Claus Ryeskov wins at Danish 200mm National Rd3

Round three of the Danish 1/10th 200mm Nitro On-road Nationals was held at the HRCR track in Hillerod, Denmark. The weather forecast for the weekend was very bad but on race day the drivers were greeted by Sun and temperatures of about 23 degree Celsius. The usual suspects were complemented by a new entry this weekend with off-road driver Rune Gustavsen campaigning Claus Ryeskov’s spare car and he was fast right from the get go, putting the car on the 3 spot behind Claus in second and Martin No Hansen on the 1 spot. In the final Martin and Claus battled for the lead with Claus putting a lot of pressure on Martin. Claus tried to get past a couple of times and both would make an unfortunate contact in the chicane, sending Martin off the track. With Claus opening a gap the race was now on between Martin and Rune while Rene and Tom were in a battle too. Martin then encountered glow plug problems that send him dead last and Tom Limkilde smashed into the pitwall, ending his race due to a broken servo. About 28 minutes into the main light rain started to fall but the shower did not affect the overall standings and so Claus cruised to the win with Rune in tow. Rene would complete the top 3 while Martin and Tom rounded out the top 5.

Roy Gjemble crowned Norwegian 4WD national champ

The fourth and final round of the Norwegian National 1/10th was held this past weekend and hosted by the Trondheim RC Car Club at the astroturf track in Skogn. Unfortunately the weather, that was warm and sunny during the 2WD portion of the event, changed over night and turned into heavy rain so the 4WD race was definitely a wet race event as it rained throughout all four qualifiers. Malin Karlsen was unbeatable in qualifying and took the TQ honours after winning the two first rounds. Her buggy looked really good in the wet and in what was a switch of roles from from the 2WD event, Roy Gjemble and his Schumacher took the second spot on the A-main grid while another Schumacher driver, talented Steffen Hjortshøj, completed the top 3.
