2019 SBS 1/10 EP Malaysian Major League Rd2 – Report

The second round of the SBS 1/10 EP Malaysian Major League was held at the SBS track in Sungai Buloh, Malaysia recently. Round 2 was run on a full astroturf surface for the first time and most racers found that the high traction surface was easy to drive on but not easy to be quick. Most spent days before the race trying out different tires and shock setups while at the same time learning to drive on such a high grip surface, which is a rarity in this part of the world. This round saw also drivers from the UK and also Indonesia who travelled for the sole purpose of racing. With the aim to make the race day more interesting, this year’s format is a two-round qualifying heat with four rounds of mains per class. In 2WD Modified, it was Team Associated’s Bashir who took TQ and after a close fight during the finals, took the win in the tie-breaker. 2nd place went to Shahrin (Xray) with the 3rd place being taken by Yuri Taruna from Indonesia.

RPM Typhon 4×4 3S BLX rear arms

Coming from RPM and made for the Arrma Typhon 4×4 3S BLX is a set of replacement rear A-arms. RPM’s versions are more adjustable, more durable and 5g lighter than stock. The designers added a second shock mount to the outside of the original stock shock mount, adding adjustability and improving trackability. The outer shock mount lowers the ride height, increasing stability on all surface types. A lower ride height also means faster corner speeds. Moulded from engineering grade nylons, the arms are a lot more durable than the standard parts with the redesigned shape of the A-arms helping improve survivability during severe bashing. The rear arms come in sets of two and they are a direct fit.

Team Associated RC8B3.1 FT tall rear shock tower

Coming from Team Associated and made for the RC8B3.1 1/8th scale buggies is the Factory Team tall rear carbon fibre shock tower. By raising the top shock mounting positions, a taller tower geometry was created that increases up-travel. Up-travel is how much further the shock can travel upwards in its stroke after the chassis has bottomed out with the ground. Increasing up-travel lets the tyre absorb more impact and improves handling in bumps and high-speed cornering. With the new geometry up-travel is optimised for both low and high axle positions and the tower is usable for the RC8B3.1 nitro and RC8B3.1e electric kits.

Hönigl & Kreil win at Austrian 1/10th Buggy opener

The opening round of the Austrian 1/10th Off-road Nationals was held at the GMAC Litschau club, one of the few real dirt tracks left in the country. The weather forecast looked terrible the week before the event, with even having the chance of snow on Sunday. Luckily things did not materialise with only one rain delay on Saturday afternoon. Racing on Sunday was held in very cold and slippery conditions, making things difficult for the drivers. In 2WD Buggy Xray’s Hupo Hönigl could secure the TQ in front of AE’s Peter Pinisch and Xray’s Lucas Grainer. The finals were even closer and Pinisch, Grainer and Hönigl won one final each so in the end the best time made the difference, which Hönigl had in front of Grainer and Pinisch.

MIP Bypass1 Kyosho & HB Racing shock pistons

MIP’s popular Bypass 1 pistons are now also available for Kyosho and HB Racing 1/8th scale off-road kits. Featuring colour-codes Valves, the Bypass1 pistons combined together with these valves allow to control and maximise the car’s performance based on which valves used. Thicker valves generate a slower rebound and thinner valves get quicker rebounds. Each set includes four pistons and a set of three different valves with the Kyosho MP10/MP9 set coming with 16mm 8-hole pistons while the HB Racing set includes 16mm 5-hole pistons. Both are available from now on.
