No surprises as Volker tops RROC practice

No surprises as Volker tops RROC practice

Day 1 of the Reedy International Touring Car Race of Champions threw up no real surprises as defending champion Ronald Volker set the pace over four rounds of practice at the Tamiya Raceway in California. With the Yokomo driver unable to better his P3 time, it was Viktor Wilck who made the most of the final round of practice improving from 10th to 2nd.  The Serpent driver would also reduce the gap to Volker to less than 3/10ths of a second, the smallest margin at which the German headed the time sheets over the opening day.  Christopher Krapp made it an all European Top 3, finishing the day ahead of team-mates Akio Sobue and Marc Rheinard, the latter the only one of the three to better his time in P4. While the times may have little bearing on the race’s unique format with 12 rounds of heads up racing getting underway in the morning, the big talking point at the end of the opening day is the narrow racing line. A track popular with racers because of its many overtaking opportunities, a particularly dirty offline has left some drivers concerned that overtaking could be limited.

Exotek Micro RS XPro chassis conversion & optionals

Exotek introduce a range of option parts for the HPI Racing Micro RS4 in the form of the XPro chassis conversion, front steel CVD axles and an alloy front spool. Starting with the conversion kit, the set’s race-inspired design utilises micro servos and LiPo packs for true 1/18th scale micro style performance and looks. It makes use of 1.5mm USA-made carbon fibre for lighter weight and factory racing looks and includes a 1.5mm fibre glass T-plate for improved rear suspension flex and handling. The chassis allows to run 140mm or 150mm wheelbase settings with the T-plate being mounted via a steel block. The weight of the block also adds weight to the rear end for better handling with lighter micro sized LiPo batteries. Furthermore the set includes secure adjustable alloy servo mounts for use with micro-sized servos, it comes with a machined alloy front suspension arm pin holder and also an adjustable ESC tray that also serves as the micro battery strap.

Volker sets early pace at RROC

thu_volker2-620x372

Ronald Volker set the early pace on the opening day of the 18th running of the Reedy International Touring Car Race of Champions.  Winner of the event on its return to the famous Tamiya Raceway last year, the Yokomo driver posted the fastest three consecutive laps of the opening two of the four scheduled rounds of practice.  A 27-car invitational field, the most competitive the race has seen since it was previously ran at the Californian track, it was Serpent’s Viktor Wilck who was closest to Volker’s pace albeit over half a second off.  An impressive run from Team Associated’s Rick Hohwart would see the touring car veteran completing the Top 3.

Local Champions Tour Rd1 – Report

Local Champions Tour Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the Local Champions Tour, a new race series in the South of Germany, was held at the Türkheim track in the four on-road classes of 1/8th Nitro and Electric as well as 1/10th Nitro and Electric. Due to a not-so-perfect weather forecast only 31 drivers attended Saturday’s practice and overnight rain made for a wet track on Sunday morning. The track conditions only allowed for two qualifying rounds followed by bump-up finals and triple 15 minute A-mains, a new race format that combines both nitro and electric rules. At the end of the day Tobias won the 1/8th Nitro class from Bastian Gramlich and Alexander Bremberger. The 1/8th Electric class was won by Alex Kestler, the 1/10th Nitro win went to Philipp Kieble and 1/10th Electric had Thomas Werner walking away with the overall victory. Round 2 of the series will be held in Rötz on the 27th and 28th of June.
