CJ Jelin TQs & wins at Fall Brawl

The 2018 Fall Brawl was held at AMain’s Silver Dollar RC Raceway in Chico, California. The race had 77 entries and in the 1/8th Nitro Buggy class it was Xray’s CJ Jelin who took the overall TQ courtesy of winning Q2 and Q3. Before the A-main CJ had to sit down and readjust his buggy’s engine as he was loosing mileage through the day. As the main was mixed with E-buggies the organisers decided to go with nine minutes runtime. CJ had the lead for the first couple of minutes until he had went wide and Mason Eppley (Tekno) passed him. Now Mason was in 1st and CJ had pit that lap to, so there was a big gap. Mason crashed on one of the back jumps and CJ was back on him and he still had to pit. From that moment on CJ drove clean for the rest of the race to take the win in Pro Nitro Buggy with Mason Eppley 2nd and Xray’s Evan Carton 3rd.

Joe Kerry wins wet BRCA 200mm Nats Rd8

The 8th round of the BRCA 1/10th 200mm Nationals was held at the Cotswold track over the weekend. The weather was really bad, heavy rain for most of the weekend and even some flood warnings issued nearby. In qualifying Joe Kerry took a fairly comfortable TQ by around 5.5 seconds. Before the final the rain almost stopped and the track became very greasy and was super difficult to drive on. At the end of the race Joe was able to finish in 1st place a lap in front of John Zottl as Matthew Cook rounded out the top 3 another four laps down.

Thanks for Joe Kerry for the update.

Markus Hellquist wins at Arena 1/12 League

The opening round of the newly established Arena 1/12 League was held at the Arena33 in Andernach. The series sets a focus on growing the 1/12th scale pan car scene again with drivers from all over Europe made their entry for the three classes of Modified, Stock and GT. Using the same layout as the week before at the German Nationals, grip was available from the get go. The weekend kicked off with free practice on Friday followed by one round of free practice, two rounds of timed practice and four qualifiers on Saturday. From the start Markus Hellquist set the pace in the Modified class ahead of veteran racer, Markus Mobers. However Hellquist had to settle for 2nd after the qualifiers as he struggled a bit after winning the opening round. The opening A-main was a bit dramatic for Markus Hellquist whose car was placed a bit in the off on the starting grid which resulted in a spin on the get go, however he was able to recover and to take the win. A2 than had Markus Mobers taking the win with Hellquist freight-training behind him for most of the 8-minute encounter. A3 would bring the decision for the overall and when Mobers made a mistake Hellquist was able to get into the lead only to make an unforced error later that send his car on the roof. Markus knew that he had to take the win for the overall and surely but steadily he was able to make up space and eventually he got back into the lead again to take the win and with it the overall from Markus Mobers 2nd and Jacques Libar 3rd.

JConcepts Fall Super Cup Rd3 – Report

Race 3 of the Fall Super Cup Championship Series traveled to one of Florida’s best-kept secrets, Mills Pond R/C Raceway over the weekend. With origins dating back to the 1980’s, Mills Pond has been around for quite some time and after 30+ years of operation, has matured like fine wine and has to be considered one of Florida’s best tracks. The layout was fun. Mills Pond is more like a 1/8th track than it is 1/10th, but works both ways. The track was high speed and the jumps were definitely challenging as the grip level was always changing throughout the day. The huge triple in the middle required a perfect setup and a clean run to clear consistently. The switchbacks and off-cambers really tested racers’ timing and calculated car placement while carrying speed. By late afternoon on Saturday, the track was hooked up and the racing absolutely exceptional.
