Kyosho Beetle 2014 2WD buggy kit

Kyosho Beetle 2014 2WD buggy kit

Coming this December is Kyosho’s re-release Beetle 2WD buggy kit. The 2014 version of Kyosho’s 1983 kit externally may look like the original Beetle with its semi-trailing suspension arms, but the advanced 6061-T6 forged aluminium material delivers futuristic levels of strength, rigidity and durability to cope with the power of modern day electronics. Following the original design, the kit features a new two-piece die-cast aluminium gearbox with differential gears and in addition, the included slipper clutch protects the transmission as well as delivers efficient traction. Precision 48 pitch gears reduce traction pulsation for direct driving control characteristics while the flat under surface of the countersunk chassis has no protruding screw heads for minimal contact resistance and scraping, resulting in higher durability. Stainless shafts combine with aluminium shock bodies on the oil shocks for smooth stroke from top to bottom and running performance worthy of a true racing buggy. Like the original Beetle, the 2014 version is packaged as an unassembled kit, but nearly all tapping screws and nuts have been replaced with the improved lightweight and security of hex screws. Included with the kit also comes a replica bodyshell and period-correct wheels and tyres.

Joe Pillars wins at South Valley Invert Race

Joe Pillars wins at South Valley Invert Race

The South Valley Invert off-road race was held this past weekend, presented by Cottage Grove RC Raceway in Central Oregon. For those who haven’t been to Cottage Grove Raceway, it is one of the hidden gems in the world of RC tracks. The facility is top notch with easy to see bright yellow piping, smooth medium-high grip surface and known to have some very wicked track layouts. The Invert format is also unique because of the reverse starting order on how you finish in A1. 3 rounds of qualifying determined the starting order of A1, but where you finish in A1 will determine where you start for A2 – but in reverse order. For example, if you finished 1st in A1, you will be starting 10th for A2. After A2 is ran, the combined A1 and A2 finishing results will make the starting order for A3. This interesting format added a bit of spice to the recipe making the racing more fun and challenging for everyone.

PSM B44.3 Shorty Conversion chassis with AirMount

PSM B44.3 Shorty Conversion chassis with AirMount

German carbon fibre specialists PSM introduce a shorty conversion carbon fibre main chassis kit for the Team Associated B44.3 4WD buggy. The set was designed with the goal to bring back a slightly softer chassis to the buggy in order to improve performance especially on low to medium-bite surfaces thanks to higher torsional flex compared to the standard aluminium chassis. Included with the 2.5mm main chassis comes PSM’s AirMount battery location system that keeps the shorty LiPo pack in place without disrupting equal left to right flex while being light of weight at the same time. An optional battery tray set for saddle pack LiPos is available also for those who opt to run a more conventional layout. Overall the chassis set scrubs around 60g of weight allowing to add balancing weights where needed. Included with the set comes the main chassis with centre brace, left and right hand shorty LiPo braces, the AirMount system as well as threaded inserts and all needed hardware.
