ARC R8S 1/8th stock pan car kit

Following a first set of teaser images ARC have released more information on their new R8S 1/8th stock pan car kit. Developed for the growing class of “rigid”, suspension-less stock 1/8th electric pan cars, the vehicle builds on a carbon fibre main chassis plate with a floating front end and a chassis-mounted, rigid rear suspension. The front suspension utilises O-rings to absorb bumps while providing more controlled cornering with different O-ring hardnesses allowing to fine-tune the steering characteristics. The suspension geometry is adjustable in terms of caster, camber and track width while the steering allows to use different Ackermann setting, again in order to adapt overall steering behaviour. The transmission is made up using a single high-torque belt and it uses large diameter hard-anodised aluminium belt pulleys and and a spur gear adapter that accepts the 1st gear main gears of the R8.1 nitro car – ensuring for swift and easy gear ratio changes. In order to suit a variety of needs, the car is usable with almost every battery configuration imaginable, be it a 4S brick pack or dual 2S batteries mounted in laydown of back-to-back configuration, while the car also takes 2S shorty packs to reduce overall weight and lower the centre of gravity. The R8S will accept all standard 1/8th on-road body shells and tyres and it will hit stores this August.

Coelho fastest after Day 1 in South Africa

Bruno Coelho is the fastest man in South Africa at the end of the opening day of the 10th running of the IFMAR Electric Touring Car World Championships.  The Xray driver was fastest with his time from the penultimate round of the day’s eight rounds of free practice moving ahead of reigning champion Ronald Volker. Volker who was fastest for the first part of the day with his Round 4 time standing his best of the day would top the final practice but overall was 3/10ths off Coelho, a margin that is smaller that it sounds given the fastest 3-consecutive laps is 1:10.736. Christopher Krapp backed up Yokomo’s form at the Welkom RC Arena by posting the 3rd fastest time of the day posting his best laps in Round 7.  While drivers reported the otherwise pretty consistent track to be slightly slower for the final practice, Freddy Sudhoff managed to improve on his time ending the day 4th ahead of Swedes Viktor Wilck and Alexander Hagberg.
