Mallee Madness & Victorian Drivers Series Rd3 – Report

The 3rd round of the Victorian Drivers series saw just under 150 entries travel to the Mildura club in regional Australia, 6 hours drive from Melbourne. The club members had built a brand new technical track for the event with a new clay surface. Unfortunately very heavy rain on the Friday of the event left the track very heavy for practice Saturday morning, resulting in the track becoming very bumpy and challenging racer’s driving and setup skills. The track dried out and grooved up through the event with competitors starting on pin tyres and ending up on supersoft bars or webs. With slick timekeeping and organisation, the event ran to schedule despite the wet start. In 4WD Modified the qualifying order was the same as 2WD Modified, the two junior racers pushing Ray hard. In the finals Ray again took the win with his son Lachlan finishing 2nd, a very unlucky Isergin just missing the podium after collecting a marshall’s foot in A3. Healy again let his experience show in the finals, finishing 3rd after tough qualifiers.

Modify LiPo Guard protective bags

Modify from Japan have introduced their new LiPo Guard protective bags for standard-sized 2S LiPo battery packs. The tailor-made bags are fabricated from fire-repelling heavy-duty tarpaulin fabric and are ideal to protect Lithium-based batteries during storage and transportation while also reducing harm in case a battery goes boom due to mistreatment. The bags are available in black and silver colour and they sport a printed Modify logo.

Pro-Line Positron VTR 1/8 truggy tyre – Coming soon

During this week’s ROAR Gas Off-road Nationals Pro-Line is showing their forthcoming Positron VTR tyre for 1/8th off-road truggies. The tread was already introduced for the buggy class and will soon also become available for race trucks. No word yet on an official release date but the tyre is expected to hit stores soon.

BMT 016GT Ferodo brake pads

Italian company BMT have introduced their new special brake pads for the 016GT 1/8th GT car. The pads are cladded with genuine Ferodo material as known from full scale cars, meaning they will offer greatly improved stopping performance and durability. The pads come in sets of two and they are available now.

EDS lightweight hex tools

Coming from EDS is their new range of lightweight tools with 120mm blades. The wrenches make use of a newly designed handle that is 22 percent lighter thanks to a hollow construction with lightweight end caps and additional machining. A diamond-shaped surface ensure exceptional grip and machined silver size markings help to identify each tool instantly. The tool tips are cut from high-quality spring steel material that is ground for maximum precision and additionally heat-treated and hardened for durability. The lightweight tool series includes 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm and 3.0mm hex wrenches that are available separately or as a compete set.

GRP M compound 1/5th scale formula tyres

GRP have introduced their new M compound tyres for 1/5th large scale formula cars. The updated rubber compound is available in M1 extrasoft, M2 soft and M3 medium hardnesses and it is meant to offer improved traction, better steering and stronger braking performance. In addition the durability has also been improved, making up for the slight increase in price.

TRG 117 1/10 formula prototype

Japanese company TRG is currently testing a new 1/10th formula pan car based on their TRG117 kit. The prototype car features a very slim 3mm 7075-T6 alloy chassis for roll and pitch stiffness as composite material side plates create a closed chassis bottom for improved aerodynamics. The car also utilises a massive diffusor, a sunken-in steering servo and the company’s complex front and rear suspension arrangements.
