Talywain Nationals report by oOple

Talywain Nationals report by oOple

oOple has the report from the 3rd round of the BRCA 1/10th National series, that was held recently at Talywain, Wales with the club putting on a good all-grass track with plenty of man-made obstacles to navigate. Darren Bloomfield was making a return to 1/10th off road after missing the first two rounds of the championship due to 1/8th buggy commitments. Darren, being the reigning 2WD National champion didn’t seem to be too concerned with his lack of practice – taking The TQ and a hard-fought win. The 4WD class wasn’t quite so straight forward for Darren, with only two finishes from the four qualifiers he only lined up 4th on the grid. Ellis Stafford, double-winner at the previous round was on pole and looked devastatingly quick. It was Darrens day however and he took the last two legs of the A final to secure a fantastic double victory to mark his return to the class.

Predator X11 Big Bore shocks

Predator X11 Big Bore shocks

Our mates over at oOple have the first information on the new ‘big bore’ shock absorbers from Team Extreme, manufacturers of the Predator X11 4WD electric buggy, who brought some of the first production examples to the recent Talywain BRCA National. Nathan Ralls has been testing the shocks behind closed doors for a while now, but has finally started to race the car in public – first time out at the recent South East regional, and a win for the new X11 driver with these new shocks. The new shock absorbers are the same length but Team Xtreme have maxxed out the diameter to the limits of what would fit within the existing range of springs.

More information can be found here.

Mike Truhe wins ROAR 1/8th Buggy Nats

Mike Truhe wins ROAR 1/8th Buggy Nats

We received this report from Losi, whose 8ight buggy just won the ROAR 1/8 Nitro Off-Road National Championship for the second year in a row. There is no doubt this 2008 ROAR Nationals will go down in history as one of the nicest and best run events in the last 10 years. Virtually every top factory driver, as well as the best privateers, from around the country raced throughout the week at the beautifully prepared Thunder Alley off-road track in Beaumont, California. The gruelling hour-long A Main event is the ultimate test of both driver and machine. While it was Jared Tebo that took the pole position, it was Losi racer Mike Truhe that took the lead early and went on to complete 126 flawless laps, with times consistently faster than his competitors, to take the win. Overlooked for much of the race was Losi 8ight driver Billy Fischer who bumped up three times through the semi-finals to earn one of the last starting spots in the Nationals A final. With a car that had been raced hard for over an hour Fischer put in a sensational drive from the back of the pack, passing 10 of the best drivers in America, to take the 2nd spot. Jared Tebo rounded out the podium in 3rd spot, ahead of Scott Hughes in 4th, while Losi driver Adam Drake, the reigning 2007 National Champion, completed the race in 5th.

Jon Hazlewood wins BRCA Nats Rd4

The 4th round of the BRCA 1/8th scale buggy Nationals were run over the weekend at the Clanfield circuit, a very fast & technical dirt track. For the first time this year the racers in attendance had great weather all day with temperatures hitting 25 degrees. Qualifying saw Losi race Darren Bloomfield take the top qualifying spot ahead of Graham Alsop in 2nd Elliot Boots 3rd. The start of the main final saw a close battle between Alsop and Jon Hazlewood at the head of the field, with the pair pulling away from the field. After some mistakes from Alsop, Jon was able to stretch out a lead and left Alsop battle it out with Boots. A mistake by the young Associated driver meant that he would finish in 3rd, behind Alsop in 2nd, with Hazlewood taking the win on his return to Xray.

Yaniv Sivan takes Israel League Rd6

Yaniv Sivan takes Israel League Rd6

The 6th round of the Israeli League took place at the Hot Wheels racing club last weekend under blisteringly hot conditions. Yaniv Sivan TQ’d the field and both 20 minute Semi finals provided some intense battles prior to the 30 minute A-Final. The final started with Yaniv Sivan opening up a gap on the rest of the field, which saw some interesting battles between Nir Sivan, Alon Maltzov, Dan Price and Yaniv Levi, all four racers battling for the runner up spot. Near the end of the race Yaniv Sivan had opened up a 20 second advantage on Nir Sivan, who was now comfortably in 2nd, but the 3rd spot had not been decided yet. The trio of Alon Maltzov, Dan Price and Yaniv Levi battled it out for the final podium spot all the way to the end and it was Dan Price that took the spot behind Nir Sivan in 2nd and Yaniv Sivan, who was for the 5th race in a row, the winner.
