Champion Phend opens Reedy Race with a win

Defending Reedy Race Champion Dakotah Phend opened the 23rd running of the event with a win, the TLR driver cruising to victory in the most heavily stacked race of the opening round of 4WD racing.  Starting from the pole, Phend was never challenged for the lead eventually able to go an extra lap to win ahead of Ryan Maifield who came through from the back of the grid.  In the other races it was Tanner Denney from 6th on the grid who won the first encounter ahead of former champion Dustin Evans while Spencer Rivkin got a late win over Cole Tollard in Race 2.

Xray welcome Jean-Pierrick Sartel

Xray have announce the signing of French 1/8th E-Buggy National Champion, Jean-Pierrick Sartel to their team for the 2017 season. JP will race Xray’s 1/8th and 1/10th off-road platforms both on a national and international level and he has the following to say:

I am very happy to join the team Xray 2017. I chose this brand for its technical support, for the quality of its hardware but especially for its competitiveness in all the categories I will use. I have always amazed the speed of development and the dedication that the factory puts into their products. The support at international races is amazing and the premium support at the national races from the French team is also one of the main reasons I decide for Xray. I am very happy for the opportunity and I will do my best. I am looking forward to starting this season with the new team.

Picco V1 Race & V1 Star nitro off-road engines

Coming from Picco are the new V1 Race and V1 Star intro off-road engines. Starting with the Race engine, the power plant shares many design features with the higher-ranked Team engine such as a 5-port cylinder and long stroke design in combination with a new, stiffer crankcase but the Race edition sports a slightly different exhaust port that leads to a different power response. With the only other differences from the higher end version being a steel rear bearing instead of the ceramic one and a non DLC-coated crankshaft, the V1 Race addresses all levels of racing. The engine also features the new double bottom-end adjustment carburettor that allows for a finer tuning.

Intellect 2017 Spec LiHV battery packs

UK Intellect distributors Schumacher have introduced the 2017 range of LiHV batteries. The new Silicon-Graphene series offers improved cycle time when charged at 1C rates and they can be charged at higher C rating, with less risk of damage to the pack. The LiHV technology has the ability to be charged to 4.35V per cell, but they can also be charged to the standard 4.2V if required. The batteries are built to meed BRCA, EFRA and ROAR rules and they are available in a range of specifications including a 4200mAh shorty (24.8mm/186g), a 5000mAh shorty (24.9mm/211g), a 6000mAh shorty (25.0mm/222g), a 3600mAh LCG shorty (18.7mm/150g), a 8200mAh 1S shorty (18.5mm/152g), a 5200mAh LCG standard size pack (22.1mm/248g), a 6000mAh LCG standard size pack (22.0mm/272g), a 8400mAh standard size pack (24.9mm/333g), as well as a 6000mAh saddle pack (24.8mm/276g) and a 6000mAh 4S stick (543g).

Estonian Onroad Racing Series Rd4 – Report

Round four of the Estonian Onroad Racing Series was held last weekend in Tallinn, Estonia. Seven rounds of Reedy Race style heats made for exciting racing and in the end Karl Kasekamp (Team Durango) would take the win in the 1/10th Stock class from Risto Haug (Xray) and Henri Nurmela (Yokomo). Reimo Kosk (Awesomatix) and Raivo Laak (3Racing) completed the top 5 result. In the Formula class Rainer Ressar (Xray) took the overall win from Reimo Kosk (Yokomo) and Kaley Lukk (Yokomo) while the GT12 category was won by Henri Nurmela (Schumacher) from Hans Mötshärg (Schumacher).

Jack Neal TQs & wins at Silverstone Winter Series Rd4

Round four of the Silverstone Winter Series was held with 94 entries and in the premier 2WD class racing was pretty close. Jack Neal, Tom Yardy, Dave Poulter and Ian Mellish each TQ’’d a qualifying round. In the final Jack drove a faultless race from the front to win, closely followed by Jonathan Skidmore and Richard Barton. In 4WD Paul Crompton won with Jonathan Skidmore 2nd and Felix de Hamel 3rd.

XRS Slovenia Rd2 – Report

Round two of the Xray Racing Series Slovenia was held at the newly resurfaced track in Maribor. The new layout in combination with the proven ETS carpet made for close racing and in the Formula category it was Damir Cindrić to take the TQ after three round of qualifying in front of Matevž Furlan and Sašo Kramljak. The Touring Stock class had Jan Popič coming out fastest from Rok Rudl and Viktor Bolšec while in the fastest class of the weekend, 1/12th scale, Alojzij Osvald took the top qualifying honours from Herfried Pucher and Nejc Mihelič.

Maifield lays down 2WD pace at Reedy Race

Ryan Maifield has laid down the fastest lap of 2WD practice on the opening day of the Reedy Race of Champions.  The new Yokomo signing posted a best lap of 20.135 to top the times from 4WD pace setter Ty Tessmann, the separation 4/100ths of a second.  A good day for the new team debutants, a strong lap from TLR’s Tanner Denney would see him the fastest of regular team drivers in P3 while team-mate & defending Champion Dakotah Phend ended up only 18th fastest of the 30 invitational class drivers.
