Kyle McBride takes Queensland State Championships

Kyle McBride takes Queensland State Championships

Last weekend Pine Hills Dirt Racing held the 2015 Queensland State Championships on a large and extremely high speed, and when dried out, very high grip track. The event started off with two rounds of practice and two rounds of qualifying on Friday. The weather wasn’t kind to the drivers on the first day and they ended up with a few rain showers, which dropped the grip on the track and made it quite slimy. Kyle McBride TQ’d both of the qualifiers for that day and he would went on to take the overall TQ following four more qualifiers on Sunday. The top 10 qualifiers went straight into the A-final, and following one 10-minute practice they went straight into the 45-minute final. Kyle started off the main with a clean start and went on to have a smooth race with no mistakes over the 45 minutes and he took the championship by over two laps of the entire field.

Schumacher BTCC Rd 4 – Report

Schumacher BTCC Rd 4 – Report

The super fast circuit of Halifax was the venue for the BTCC this past weekend, virtually all racers turned up on Saturday for lots of practice time, the weather was dry and the forecast was good all day Saturday. However the forecast for Sunday was totally the opposite, everybody knew that very heavy rain was predicted in the early afternoon, so due to this the decision was taken to start the event slightly earlier on the Sunday morning, to try and get the event complete in the dry conditions. The format for the day was 4 rounds of qualifying with round by round and then 1 final for everyone. As forecast the rain held off until the last few heats of the final qualifying round, then a little started to fall here and there to make things a little more interesting. For the finals everyone was preparing their wet cars on wet tyres as it was a little moist. Colin Price took his form from the great win at the last BRCA National and stamped his authority in the Modified A-main, taking the win from Olly Jefferies and Chris Grainger.

Riccardo Berton takes Italian 1/8th Buggy Champs

Riccardo Berton takes Italian 1/8th Buggy Championship

Riccardo Berton’s 2015 season goes on in the best possible of ways, with the young Kyosho driver winning the third round of the Italian Nationals and with it the overall Championship following his victory at the EFRA European Championships B earlier this Summer. The main final would see 14 drivers at the start after the unanimous decision to skip the semifinals, due to only having 14 entries in the Expert class. Top Qualifier Alex Zanchettin led the race for the opening five minutes, but before the first fuel pit stops a flame out would drop him mid-pack. The Worlds finalist and Euros podium finisher’s race ended some minutes later with a broken steering servo. With Alex out of the mix, the lead was taken by Baruffolo and Ongaro, who would fight for the lead for about 30 minutes. With 10 minutes to go all of Baruffolo’s tyres would come unglued and with this leading to a broken body shell that forced the TLR driver to a long pit stop to replace it. This opened the way for Ongaro, who could now benefit from the lead over Berton. Riccardo had been playing the patience game for the whole length of the final, but his car seemed to be easier to drive than Ongaro’s and he was able to put pressure on Davide. The strategy paid off with Berton managing to force Ongaro into a couple of mistakes to take the race and with it the championship.
