Saturday came to a close with an exciting, action packed round 3 of qualifying. The track is becoming tricky abrasive and the tire choice is now more crucial than ever. Making all the right moves, round 3 saw the rise of Rivkin as he has found speed in truck and 4WD and letting the locals know why he’s one of the nation’s elite drivers. Unfortunately, most of the audience and perhaps some racers were all gathered around the TV to watch a little boxing history.

Volker wins A2 from Sobue

After the dramas of A1 Ronald Volker took an easy win in the second A-Main at ETS Austria, the Yokomo driver heading home the Tamiya of A1 winner Akio Sobue by 2.4 seconds as Bruno Coelho retired early after putting his Xray in the boards of the temporary track.  Alexander Hagberg would complete the Top 3, the Xray driver struggling as the track had even less traction than A1 when he finished a close second to Sobue.

The 2nd round of qualifying at the JConcepts Spring Indoor National Series has proven to be just as exciting as the first. With one less qualifier to work with, the intensity seems to rise as we approach the day’s end. Racers have 4 qualifiers and only need to keep their best 2 to set them up for Sunday’s A-mains. In 4WD Modified, the crowd was treated to a spectacular show with another head to head battle between Ryan Maifield, Michael Schoettler, and Spencer Rivkin. All three drivers would trade tenths and laps for the entire 5 minute run showcasing their amazing talent. As the tone went off, Maifield would take another round to almost completely seal the deal in 4WD. The only chance left for his competitors is to take back-to-back TQs in rounds 3 and 4 and settle it in a tie-breaker. Schoettler would again finish 2nd with a 19 5:05.89 and 1.6 seconds back of Maifield. Taking 3rd would be AE/JConcepts’ Spencer Rivkin with a 19 lap 5:07.37 who seemed to have found his groove with his B44.3.

Sobue wins A1 as Volker & Coelho clash twice

Akio Sobue has won the opening A-Main at Round 4 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Austria this morning, the Tamiya driver benefiting from a widely anticipate clash between Top Qualifier Ronald Volker and the No.2 starting Bruno Coelho.  Also benefiting from the incidents, Alexander Hagberg would challenge Sobue for the lead towards the end of the race but contact with the Tamiya 3-laps from the finish would leave the Swede to have to settle for second around difficult to overtake temporary fahr(T)raum track. Having fallen to fourth Volker would manage to get back past his Yokomo team-mate Yannic Prumper to complete the Top 3 while Coelho would pull off after his second clash with the German.

JConcepts Indoor Nationals Series Rd2 – Qualifying Rd1

The first round of qualifiers of the second round of the JConcepts Indoor Nationals at Tacoma R/C Raceway are officially in the books. With most racers wisely putting in safety runs for the first round, some would not hold anything back and shoot straight to the front of the pack setting the fastest runs of the round. The show in 4WD Modified had the entire room on their feet as Ryan Maifield and Michael Schoettler would engage in a battle that lasted the entire 5 minutes on the clock. There was a point were it looked like Maifield was going to walk away and take an easy TQ run, but Schoettler would dig deep to close the gap. Maifield would cross the line with a 19 lap 5:08.02 and Schoettler would only lose TQ by .6 seconds! AE/JConcepts’ Damon Borkowicsz would fly under the radar and take a well deserved 3rd place run.

Volker TQs ahead of Coelho at ETS Austria

Ronald Volker has claimed what is probably the most important pole position of this season’s Yokomo Euro Touring Series after the challenge from Tamiya’s Akio Sobue came to nothing in the final round of qualifying in Austria.  His 17th time becoming Top Qualifier, last year’s winner of the fahr(T)raum hosted event would end Q4 second fastest 0.233 of a second off the Xray of Bruno Coelho.  The TQ run would help Coelho to move ahead of Sobue in the final qualification ranking with the Portuguese star set to start directly behind Volker, the same order in which they lined up for Round 3 in Italy. A track where the majority of A-Main drivers agree overtaking will be ‘impossible’, Sobue starts third and could be perfectly placed should there be a repeat of the sparks that flew in Riccione.

Roche Rapide P12 screw set & titanium turnbuckles

Roche have new option parts for the Rapide P12 1/12th scale pan car available in the form of a titanium and aluminium hex screw set and titanium turnbuckles. Starting with the fasteners, the set includes over 55 M3 screws of different length and material to replace the standard steel screws. The alloy fasteners come red anodised while the titanium screws are included in natural colour. The set is made to reduce the overall weight while adding some visual impact at the same time. Also new are two 2-piece sets of M3 turnbuckles. Coming as 15mm camber links and 42mm long steering turnbuckles the parts are made to replace the standard steel camber and anodised aluminium steering turnbuckles with durable yet lightweight titanium parts.
