AKA have two new 1/10th off-road tyres available in the form of the Gridiron Evo buggy and Impact short course tyre. Starting with the Gridiron Evo, the 2WD/4WD buggy rear tyre is designed to excel on low-traction hard-packed tracks and it comes in AKA’s soft and super soft compounds. Coming as pairs the Evo line tyre is available including a red colour insert or pre-glued on white or yellow Evo rims.

The famous Lostallo track played host for an EFRA nitro on-road GP. Free practice got underway on Friday afternoon after rain brought the proceeding to a halt during the morning. The event saw only a small number of entries but the quality of the field was very high with drivers of the like of Simon Kurzbuch, Merlin Depta and Toni Gruber. After the qualifying rounds Mattia Pesenti (Xray) took TQ from his Xray team mate Claudio Pasquin with both scoring 15 lap runs. Simon Kurzbuch, Merlin Depta and Toni Gruber completed the top 5.

The 2014 ROAR 1/8th Electric Offroad Nationals took place in Houston, Texas last weekend. Team Losi Racing’s Dakotah Phend made a clean sweep in qualifying by taking TQ in all three classes – Buggy, Truggy and the supporting Pro4 4WD short course class. In 1/8th E-Buggy Jared Tebo and Drew Moller rounded out the top 3 while in E-Truggy Jared Tebo and Cody King filled the top 3 spots. In Pro4 Ryan Lutz and Adam Drake put their trucks in 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

A Main Hobbies introduce the 7.4V 5600mAh 100C square LiPo hardcase battery out of their Supreme Power series of high-performance packs. The “Square” style battery pack is an option for applications that use a side by side saddle pack setup, such as 2WD buggies and stadium trucks. When compared to a saddle pack, the square design eliminates the need for a jumper wire for increased efficiency, and at the same time cleans up the charging station by eliminating cluttered charging cables. The battery pack uses 5mm bullet connectors that can be accessed from either side of the case, allowing you to position the battery terminals in the direction that best suits your application. The battery is not yet ROAR approved, but uses the same hard plastic case that is required for use at ROAR sanctioned tracks and events.

The 2013/14 Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series consisted of eight rounds at a variety of tracks in the provinces of Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Alberta. Now in existence for over 20 years, the series has become the premier road racing championship in North America. In the 13.5 World GT class, Reedy factory driver and reigning champion Korgae Scales sought to make it two in a row in the highly competitive class. Thanks to four wins and three TQs, Korgae collected 403 points out of a possible 404 to win his second consecutive title.

The latest kit to receive MIP’s Pucks Shiny drive system is Team Losi Racing’s 22T stadium truck. The Pucks drive system, that does away with conventional drive pins over a plastic “cushion” construction as part of the driveshafts, includes a set of “shiny” steel C-CVD bones, steel wheel axles, steel outdrives, new diff rings, thrust race, diff screw any other small parts to convert the trucks standard drivetrain. The Pucks system promises simpler maintenance and a smoother running drivetrain compared to the kit’s standard parts with the Shiny set being usable with stock and modified motors alike.

With the new season well and truly under way with a dramatic wet race at Mendip, it was now onto round 2 at the Halifax circuit in Yorkshire, the host on the 2013 European Championships. With the welcome return of Green and Branson from ENS duty, this would be a weekend which would eventually set the marker for the rest of the season. Saturday was a preparation/practice day which was well supported but with the weather being wet at the start of the day, allowed all the drivers to carefully prepare and setup their cars for a dry track in the afternoon. The pace was being set by Branson and Green with Tim Wood and King close behind with their OS and XRD engines respectively. North was struggling with gear box setup and mid corner understeer but this was soon resolved but reverting to an old 2 speed mechanism and using harder rear springs.

After a break of a few years the famous Italian Arena race is back, this time going back to its roots, moving back outdoors. From the 29th to the 31st of August Arena Outdoor will be run at one of the best outdoor buggy tracks in Italy, the DirtRaceRC track of Diego Fuser. The race will be open to Nitro buggy, Nitro truggy and Brushless buggy categories with all the info about the race format, timetable and categories to be posted online very soon.
