DJ Apolaro signs with Spektrum

DJ Apolaro signs with Spektrum

Spektrum signs National Champion and recent winner of the 2013 Winternats, DJ Apolaro to use all Spektrum products for the 2013 year. Having tested the radio and servos at the recent U.S. Open Fuel Championship, Apolaro was very pleased with the results, taking the TQ and Win. This is what DJ has to say about the deal:

First I would like to thank Craig Kaplan at Hobby People/Airtronic’s for their support over the past few years. We had great success together and they are a great group of people. I now look forward to my new venture with Horizon and Spektrum. Having tested the products at the Open Race and feeling very connected with the equipment was great. I want to thank Sonny Brown at Horizon for the opportunity and look forward to showing just how great the Spektrum products are. This weekend it was very easy to use the new radio with the simplified menu. That combined with the very precise servos was just awesome.

Zac Ryan wins Malaysian buggy nats Rd2

Zac Ryan wins Malaysian buggy nats Rd2

Malaysia has become a hotbed of off-road nitro racing in the past couple of years. This past weekend with the effort of the new Putrajaya club and Alvin Lam along with the huge support of the local Putrajaya city and government officials a new track was launched. The Putrajaya city is creating sporting facilities for Malaysians to enjoy and within 100m of the new track were a RC flying field, RC drift track, a lake for RC boating and a world-class swimming complex. Supported by beautiful hotels set on the water it’s a great place to race. 135 drivers from Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, and Brunei attended and would contest the second round of the national’s. Qualifying would be 3 rounds of 10-minute heats with the best 2 of 3 to count. Round one ended up being dropped due to a transponder loop issue so it would be best 1 of 2 rounds to count on Saturday. TQ went to new factory JConcepts driver Zac Ryan from Australia. With his first outing on the JC rubber and a brand new MP9 Tki3 he would be tough to beat as he led the timesheets. Close behind him was Felix Tan (JQ/GO/AKA) and Didier Perrin (Mugen/Novarossi/AKA).

Lee Martin wins at BRCA nationals

The first round of the BRCA 1/8th off-road nationals took place at the dirt track of the HNMC. Day two kicked off cold and dry and gave perfect conditions for the drivers. Kyosho’s Elliott Booth took TQ after the qualifiers but dropped out in the semis due to problems as did Team Associated’s Neil Cragg. The A final saw a great battle between Mugen driver Lee Martin and TLR’s Darren Bloomfield for the whole 45 minutes. Every time Bloomfield caught Martin he was forced into errors letting him drop back again. At the end it was Lee who took the race win in front of Darren Bloomfield and Simon Willetts.
