South German nitro on-road regionals – Report

South German nitro on-road regionals – Report

A round to the South German nitro on-road regionals was run at the prestigious track in Hof. The race was held in 1/10th 200mm Scale as well as 1/8th Class 1 and Class 2. In the 200m class it was Dominic Greiner (Serpent) who put his car on TQ after the qualifiers. He also won his 1/2 final and the main final in front of Michael Heinrich and Ralf Krause. In 1/8th Class 1 Toni Gruber (Serpent) looked like the man to beat all weekend. He was the only driver to pull 20 laps with laptimes as low as 12.1s, missing out the current track record by only a tenth of a second. Therefore it was no surprise that he won is 1/2 final some two laps in front of Torsten Müller. His 91 laps run was enough to secure him the pole position for the final that he later on won four laps in front of Torsten Müller (Xray) and Oliver Lembeck (Mugen).

Exotek XB4 alloy & carbon option parts

Exotek XB4 alloy & carbon option parts

Exotek have new option parts for Xray’s XB4 electric off-road buggy available in the form of an aluminium steering rack, alloy CVD safety cups and carbon battery straps. Starting with the steering rack, the part is machined from 7075 material and offers reduced flex over the original brace for a more direct steering input. The rack weights in at 4g, maintains the stock geometry and is available in orange or black colour. Next up are the CVD safety cups that keep the front, rear and centre driveshaft’s cross pins in place. They offer increased durability, are available in orange or black colour and give the buggy a factory team look. Last but not least come the carbon fibre battery straps. The parts are machined from 2.25mm material, they match with the original Xray carbon fibre and work with the kit’s or Exotek’s twist nuts.

The track is located roughly 3000 metres above sea level and the race saw entries from many South American countries including Brazil, Peru, Chile, USA and Ecuador of course. Friday’s practice was washed away by the rain largely but come Saturday the weather improved and the competitors were able to start working on their engines and chassis setups. The race format had direct qualifying for the top 4 so everyone was eager to qualify as good as possible. Capricorn’s DJ Apolaro was invited to compete in the Sedan class and soon learned that engine setup in the thin air was crucial. Nevertheless he ended up in third place after the qualifiers.

Cody King wins Pro Buggy at JBRL Nitro Rd4

Cody King wins Pro Buggy at JBRL Nitro Rd4

The JBRL Nitro Round 4 was held last weekend in Temecula, California at ARC Raceway. Cody King and Reds Racing new Team driver Cody Smith went 1st and 3rd in the buggy class. During the final, Cody King filled up with fuel at 10 1/2 minutes. It was not an easy race, because he had to fight with Adam Drake for the win. With about 5 minutes left in the 20 minute main Adam had a couple mistakes and allowed Cody to stretch out a bit. This would give him about a 6 second lead and he could cruise home to the win. Cody was really pumped on the fuel economy, as he was consistently well over 10 minutes on a tank, and with fuel to spare. This was at race pace with a lot of wheel spin and a lot of throttle input.
