The annual 1/8th off-road Nordic Championships were held in sunny and hot Finland. This year the race was more international than normal with drivers from Finland and Sweden, but also Estonia, France, Italy and Germany. The race was incredibly close, with the fastest drivers being Joseph Quagraine, Ari Heinonen and Teemu Leino. In qualifying all but one round was decided with mere tenths of a second, often with all three drivers separated with less than 1 second after the 5 minute qualifying rounds. In the end Joseph Quagraine managed to TQ from Ari in 2nd and Teemu in 3rd. Avid 1/8th titanium lower shock screws

Avid 1/8th titanium lower shock screws

Avid introduce these titanium lower shock screws for 1/8th off-road vehicles like the ones from Mugen, Xray, Agama, or Tekno. The screw set offers two left and two right hand threaded screws with a 5.5mm socket head which makes taking the shocks off a breeze. A centre-drilled hole for easy docking of callipers while measuring shock lengths is also incorporated. The special design of the screws makes sure the fasteners do not come loose in long mains as they are constantly fastened by the up and down travel of the arm and the shock’s ball cup.

Cody King doubles at JBRL Rd5

Cody King doubles at JBRL Rd5

Another round of JBRL is in the books, and it was a good weekend for Kyosho/Reds’ Cody King. He would get the critical TQ point in the buggy class, and win both truggy and buggy main events. The truggy class win allowed Cody to make up some ground on TLR/Novarossi’s Adam Drake in that class, and put more distance between himself and the rest of the field in the buggy class. Cody has won the expert buggy final in each of the four rounds he has attended, and also collected some TQ points. This gives him firm control of the buggy class after 5 of the 8 rounds have been completed.

John Ermen wins Dutch 1/8th nationals Rd5

The fifth round of the Dutch 1/8th on-road nationals took place at the legendary Apeldoorn track under scorching hot weather conditions. During Friday’s practice the drivers tried to adapt the chassis, tyres and engines as good as possible as the temperatures in the 36°C range caused the teams some problems here and there. Come Saturday the temperatures dropped a bit and this was reflected in the lap times that become more than half a second faster with the lowest temperatures and fastest times being achieved on Sunday. After three rounds of qualifying Robin d’Hondt took TQ followed by John Ermen and Steven Cuypers. Rick Vrienlijnck and Gunther van Staey followed in fourth and fifth place. In the semifinal B John Ermen had a very clean run and took the pole position for the final as Robin d’Hondt was some 13 seconds slower compared to the Xray driver.
