Wouter Wynen wins Rd3 of Benelux Championship

Privateer Wouter Wynen, driving an X Factory X-6 Squared, won the third round of the Benelux Championship held over the weekend at MAC Vlijmen. Wynen TQ’d the event and won A1, looking sure to take all the marbles. But in A2, youngster Wesley Von Helmond came from 3rd on the grid to nip Wouter, so Wynen needed to finish A3 ahead of Von Helmond in order to sew up the win. Wouter and Wesley pulled away in A3, Wesley leading, with X-Team driver Bruno Heremans in a comfortable third. Midway through the race Wesley clipped the inside pipe of two successive corners and Wouter got through into the lead with Bruno closing right up in third. With just two corners to go, there was contact between the two leaders and “Elvo” Heremans slipped by to take the win in A3. So Wouter Wynen’s X-6 Squared won the event, with Elvo and Wesley tied on points. The countback gave Wesley second and Elvo third.

The big news this year was the level of competition, with top drivers attending the race from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia.  Even bigger news, was the very fast lap times set consistently by Meen Vejrak of Thailand and Nicholas ‘IceMan’ Lee of Singapore.  Nicholas Lee, a Singaporean, crossed over from EP to GP this year after a World Championship title in EP last year.
