Simon Reeves wins 2008 Belgian GP

Simon Reeves wins Belgian GP

We received a report from Simon Reeves on the Belgium GP for 1/10th electric off road, which is always held the first weekend of July each year. Willy and Lilian who run the meeting always manage to run a relaxed fun meeting which for most is one of the best meetings of the year. This year saw more new additions to the track with a new wall of death and a new triple/double combination in the centre of the track. The 2wd event held on the Saturday was a mixture of sunshine and rain which on the MBV track proves a major challenge as the slightest of rain can make a massive difference to grip levels but we were lucky with 4wd & Truck to have sunshine all day with the odd cloud but most importantly dry all day.

Serpent 960 Radio plate support weight

Serpent 960 Radio plate support weight

Also new for the Serpent 960 is this aluminium radio plate support with brass weight. Similar in structure to the previous aluminium bracket, this version has been modified to accept the brass weight and will come as standard in future 960-08 kits. The accompanying brass weight adds 50 grams to very centre of the car and is mounted as low as possible in this area so as not to adversely affect the centre of gravity. Similar in concept to the previously released brass battery holder, this system gives a more neutral handling characteristic than that of the battery holder yet has the same benefits.

Serpent 960 Shock tower RR V3

Serpent 960 Shock tower RR V3

Serpent have announced the release of this new shock tower for the rear of the Serpent 960. Made from 3.5mm thick carbon fibre, the new shock tower features a 2nd, higher mounting hole for the centring pin. This hole allows for the rear body mount to be set at its highest setting, while still being able to be centred. Some new low body shells work best when they are raised at the rear and this new shock tower facilitates that. This part will come as standard in future 960-08 kits.

Mark Gilliland wins BRCA 200mm Rd5

Mark Gilliland wins BRCA 200mm Rd5

The 5th round of the BRCA 1/10th scale 200mm Nationals were run at Wrexham last weekend and rainy weather greeted the lower than normal number of competitors who attended. On Saturday it rained in the morning and didn’t dry until around midday, leaving the racers with half a day of practice to fine tune their cars for Sunday’s racing. On race day, the first two rounds of qualifying were wet and so it was only the last two dry rounds which would count. Team Xray driver Mark Gilliland was TQ in every round and so claimed the overall top spot from Mark Green, Stephen Brown and Kyle Branson. For the finalists, all chances of a dry final were dashed when it started raining 10 minutes before the start, leaving all racers scrambling to put wet tyres on their cars. The start of the 30 minute race saw Kyle Branson jump to the front after 4 laps followed by Steve Brown, the order remaining static until the 23rd minute when Branson’s wheel came off and took him out of the lead. With the tyre back on he struggled on a drying track and this left Gilliland to pick up the pieces and take the win by 3 laps from Mark Green, with his Serpent team mate Kyle Branson holding onto 3rd.
