2009 IIC Las Vegas – Announcement

Our good friend Scotty Ernst is once more running his World famous IIC race in Las Vegas, with this year’s edition running from the 7th – 12th of September, the week after labour day. Now in its fifth year, the 2009 event presented by Jaco/SMC will again be held right in the heart of Las Vegas, at the Rivera hotel on the world famous strip. As it proved so popular last year, this year’s event will once again finish up on Saturday, giving everyone the chance for a relaxed drive home on Sunday, meaning people dont have to take Monday free from work. In the past the IIC has been seen as a barometer for upcoming trends in RC racing, the event being the first major brushless event, the first to allow LiPo packs and the first to offer brushless handout motors, and this year its no exception, with all the 1/12th classes and both WGT classes required to use 1 cell LiPo batteries making this years IIC the first all LiPo event ever. Mugen Seiki MBX-6T body skins

New from Mugen are these body shell skins for the all new MBX-6T truggy. Designed by US custom specialists Upgrade RC, they come in 3 colours, blue, purple and red, and are pre cut. Simple to apply, just paint your shell with a base colour, peel and stick. Once applied they are strong and flexible, and so can withstand crashes, and most importantly they are resistant to fuel.

Alexander Hagberg wins Swedish Nats opener

Merlin Fuel have a report from their team driver Alexandar Hagberg, who last weekend took part in his first gas race in Växjö, southern Sweden at the opening round of the Swedish Nationals. Qualifying went well for the Xray driver as in the 3rd round out of 4 he could secure the overall TQ with a 2 second gap over the 2nd placed Kyosho driver Magnus Vässmar. In the finals Alex lead for the first 20 minutes until his engine flamed out, which gave Vässmar the lead ahead of Alexander. With 2 minutes to go Vässmar lost his 2nd gear and was running slowly around the track and this allowed Hagberg to take back the lead and with it the win, about half a lap down to 2nd placed Vässmar and another lap in front of 3rd placed Mugen driver Mikael Fransson.

Xray XT8 Graphite Body Protector

Xray have released these CNC-machined front and rear upper body protectors for the XT8 truggy. Made from premium-grade graphite material, they are specially designed to protect the body from damage by stopping the body being pushed down the posts in the event of a crash.

Euro Touring Series – Round 4

The Much More backed Euro Touring Series roars back into action after a near 2 month break following the successful running of round 3 in Warsaw, Poland. The Championship visits the famous Apeldoorn track in the Netherlands for round 4 on the 29th to 31st of May and with entry currently open, we have already attracted some of Europe’s top racers with Jilles Groskamp, Viktor Wilck, Steen Graversen, as well as round 3 winner Yannic Pruemper already placing their entry. Rick Veenma joins Shepherd Micro Racing

Shepherd Micro Racing have announced that they have signed front running Dutch driver Rick Veenma to their team. Despite his short racing career the young racer has achieved a number of podium placings at the Dutch National Championships and has made the step over to Shepherd to help regularly challenge at the sharp end of the field. As team driver he will support the Benelux Shepherd drivers during races in close cooperation with Team Shepherd Benelux.

Mattia Pesenti wins Swiss 1/8th Nats Rd2

This past weekend saw the 2nd round of the Swiss 1/8th scale Championship take place in Aigle, in the French part of Switzerland, which is a nice track but very dangerous due to very little run off. On Saturday the weather wasnt so good and they only managed 2 rounds of qualifying before it started to rain. It was Motonica driver Shasa Lackner that claimed the pole position, setting a new lap record, in front of Juerg Nydegger and Luca Martinello both driving Mugen, with the final direct qualifying position going to Marco Mueller with his Shepherd.

Colorado State Pro Series Rd1

This weekend saw the opening race of the 6 round Colorado State Pro Series. Team Losi driver Dustin Evans grabbed TQ in the final round of qualifying in Pro Buggy over team mate Matt Chambers. Dustin took advantage of the clear track ahead of him and went on to lead every lap of the 35 minute main event from Adrian Redding in 2nd, with Lars Johnson claiming 3rd. The Pro Truggy race had Losi Driver and TQ Lars Johnson swapping places with Team Associated driver Adrian Redding several times for the first 20 minutes, before Lars ended up getting the top spot and brought it home in first. Race 2 of the series travels to RAT Raceway in Denver, Colorado on May 30th.
