Ryan Dunford wins 2012 Short Course Nationals

The 2012 Short Course Nationals again hosted at RC Madness in Enfield, Ct had over 300+ entries this past weekend and the word of the day was ‘hot’ during qualifying. High temps and big time humidity would make for a long day with everyone ducking for a bit of shade where they could. This race has been plagued by the weather in the past. Unfortunately this year would be no different. After all rounds of qualifying TLR’s Ryan Dunford would TQ 4WP Pro 4 SC and would get yet another TQ in the 2WD Pro 2 SC class. Weather would dominate the mains though not allowing any competitor to run their mains. So qualifying order would end up being finishing order as well.

Mike Aliberti wins SC Nationals warmup

The warm-up race for next weekend’s Short Course National Championship was held recently at R/C Madness in Connecticut.  X Factory drivers Mike ‘Lights Out’ Aliberti and Chris Cristo qualified first and second, with privateer John Cravotta third, all driving the new SCX-60CF. It was a very large and busy lay-out with triples, doubles, a table-top and a monster berm, and as is often the case with short course outdoors, the wind make the many jumps interesting.  Aliberti took the first round of qualifying by 10sec over second and that time stood up for the pole position in the main. In the second qualifier Mike was set to improve on that time with an 8-lap run when he did a big wheelie on the straight and the truck flipped over backward. Cristo’s time in Q2, four seconds behind Aliberti’s Q1 time was good for second on the grid.  John Cravotta took Q3 five seconds off Aliberti’s time. It was all Mike Aliberti in the main as he checked out for the win.  Cristo was involved in some first-lap ‘short course racing’ and came out of it 9th.  He put he head down and worked his way through the pack to finish third.

For the 2wd class we ran Bar Codes rear and Pressure Points up front. For 4wd, there were some guys on Bar Codes front and rear and others on Pressure Point front and rear.

Finland Short Course Summer Cup Rd2

Round two of Short Course Summer Cup in Finland took place recently at the Tammisaari SC track. Track was recently modified for SC trucks and it gave a great racing experience. The rrack was a lot rougher than what tracks usually are in Finland, but due to that it created some great off-road experience and good reviews from racers. For the first time in the SC winter or summer cup, 4wd cars outnumbered 2wd cars by having 23 participants over 12 in 2wd. As in previous round in Vantaa, Mikko Pyhältö in 4wd and Riku Tolonen in 2wd took first places after the qualifying heats. We also saw new drivers climbing to the A finals which shows that there is a wide range of drivers that can compete for the top positions.
