Brian Kinwald dominates 9th Annual SIGP

The 9th annual Southwest Indoor Grand Prix, hosted by Tucson, AZ’s Competition Hobbies, should be re-named as the BK Invitational. Team Associated’s Brian Kinwald owns this track and went on a tear, TQ’ing 14 of the 16 rounds of qualifying among 2WD Modified, Modified Truck, Pro2 and Pro4. Starting from pole position in everything but Pro4, Kinwald showed the fluid, effortless driving style that helped him win two World Championships in the 90’s. Now, almost twenty years later, he’s still winning.

Ty Tessmann wins Battle at the Beach

Sunny Lake Havasu, Arizona, was once again the site for the Battle at the Beach. Over one hundred racers from throughout the Southwest participated in a variety of electric and nitro classes. This race event is always considered to be one of the most enjoyable events to attend, thanks to the laid-back atmosphere and excellent track preparation. Ty Tessmann, driving a Reedy/LRP-powered SC10 4×4, was the man to beat throughout the weekend. After qualifying for the pole position, Ty won the first two main event legs to close the deal and claim another title.

Florida Short Course Enduro report

At the home of the best Indoor off road RC facility in FL, Basher RC Raceway hosted their first ever enduro race name ‘3 Hours of Basher’. With the help of the local sponsors: JConcepts providing free tires for each team, DNA energy drink & Puccini’s pizza having free food and drink for all racers, and last but not least, Bob making those amazing ice cold Slushie. This event has become an event that FL RC racers can’t miss. The race director of this event Tim Potter was able to bring the exciting tradition from on road to off road racing scene in FL. This event had total of 9 teams competing for the title of the first ever Basher enduro champion.

Ryan Maifield wins Pro4 at Reedy Truck race

The 2011 Reedy Truck race was back at Hot Rod Hobbies with a full cast of the nation’s hottest truck racers ready to do battle in 3 different classes of competition. Ryan Maifield struck quickly in the Expert Pro 2 class taking the TQ honors after just 2 rounds of qualifying. Ryan ran his ROAR National Championship setup of Hi-Flow body, Bar Codes tires and Hazard +3 wheels on the Factory Team SC10. Jared Tebo Qualified 2nd and Ryan Cavalieri 3rd.

Ross Rhodes wins SC at ROAR Region 5 Champs

This Past Weekend JConcepts Team Driver Ross Rhodes attended the ROAR Region 5 Off Road Championships held at the Proving Grounds Raceway. Ross TQ’d the first round of qualifying in stock short course with his Factory Team SC10 equipped with JConcepts Tires, Wheels, Body and Inserts. The Gold Bar Codes helped Ross and his SC10 hold TQ all through qualifying. Ross got off to a pretty good start in the Short Course A-main, however he would make a couple of bobbles and fell back to fourth. Midway through the 6 min Main Ross found himself in second behind the leader, they maintained the same pace and Ross never had a chance to pass. On the last lap after time expired, going into the back double double the first place driver got the second double a little bit wrong and Ross hit it right and was able to pass him in the last corner for the win.

Munn takes SC title at Northwest Champ’ Tour

Venom Factory Pilot Jesse Munn Wins 2011 Northwest Championship Tour Venom Team Driver Jesse Munn kept up his consistent showings to take the overall points win for the Northwest Championship Tour 2011. The final race, ‘The Columbia Cup’, was held this last weekend in Pasco, Washington and brought out the normal high-level NCT competitors, as well as well-known Kyosho Team Driver, Shawn Dunlap. Munn held off the local drivers and battled closely with Dunlap during the three-day event. Dunlap took the weekends TQ and overall win, but Munn’s strong performance was enough to clinch the overall series title for Mod SC Truck running his Venom Gambler. Munn also took the championship in Mod 2WD Buggy for the third consecutive year.

Nathan Waters wins Rd6 of UK SC Champs

The 6th and final round of the Inaugural UK National Short course Championship was held at the A1 Racing Club. From the results at previous rounds, Stuart Harlow with his DESC410R had an excellent chance to wrap up the series win with a good result. Attending their first SC national of the year were Nathan Waters, Adam Skelding and Andy Wesson driving their DESC410R’s. Qualifying was a mixed bag for Nathan and Adam, who both suffered timing issues and lost round scores. After 4 rounds it was Adam who took TQ taking the last two rounds of qualifying with Andy Wesson securing 2nd on the grid with Stuart Harlow and Nathan Waters lining up 3rd and 4th respectively. 7 Durango’s lined up in the A main, showing once again that the DESC410R is the truck to have in 4wd.

Frank Root wins Pro2 at Race for the Cure

Losi’s Frank Root attended the Inaugural Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure this past Saturday at SDRC Raceway. The track had great grip, and a fun, technical layout. The entry count was very strong at 123 and a great day of racing was had by all. In addition to the racing, there was a fantastic raffle, activities for kids, and a bake sale for additional donations. 100% of the race entries went directly to the Susan G. Komen foundation, an amazing total of $7,200.  In the Pro2 (Modified SC) class Frank’s Losi XXX-SCT equipped with the TLR Tuned Kit was great all day. Frank chose JConcepts Gold Bar Codes for optimal traction and was on point again in qualifying. Frank would run the fastest time in each of the three rounds of qualifying, taking the TQ. The single 5-minute main started with a brief challenge from 2nd place, but Frank would soon pull away leaving the rest of the field to battle for 2nd place. Frank would eventually lap the field and cruise home to a dominating win.
