Amezcua gives Tekno RC the victory at Nitro Challenge

Tekno RC were eager to tell us that their chassis conversions have put a driver on the top step of the podium in the Electric 1/8th class at the Nitro Challenge 2 years running. This year, Travis Amezcua was running a Tekno equipped Mugen MBX6. Starting 4th on the grid while going through the 12-pack, Travis was hit early and had to battle from the back of the pack.  He passed all others including former Hot Bodies team mate Jessie Robbers in the 10 minute main event to become the Nitro Challenge Electric 1/8th Champ. Bobby Tillman (Tekno/Mugen) and Tyler Vik (Tekno/Kyosho) placed 4th and 5th respectively.

Carlos Durães confirmed at Xray

Carlos Duraes confirmed at Xray

We just reported on him winning the season opener in Portugal, but now Xray have confirmed that young Portugese driver Carlos Durães has joined their team. The Portuguese Cup champion and Junior National Champion had the following to say about his new deal:

I’m glad and honoured that I can be part of such a team like Xray, team that is composed with great drivers, persons and of course Juraj and Martin Hudy themselves near the team in the races. Xray is one of the best or the best R/C model products available today, with great performance, design, reliability and of course the Xray known quality. Since the first day of testing the XB808 2010 version, I felt quicker, better and confident, the car is amazing and I’m really happy with it. It jumps like none other and it flies within the track.

Tebo clean sweep at Winter Indoor Nationals

Tebo clean sweep at Winter Indoor Nationals

St. Charles, Missouri was the location for the first annual Winter Indoor Nationals and Jason Ruona from JConcepts sent us this report. It was cold outside but warm inside the SmacTrac facility as practice started Friday with drivers coming from all over to test the new track layout. It was apparent in practice that the track layout was a challenge, especially the split lane in the center of the track. The separation of the split lane provided many drivers the opportunity to showcase their best driving tricks and stunts as the narrow lane sometimes provided the ultimate test of control in a narrow space. By weekends end everyone looked comfortable and everyone just remembered, when in doubt steer a little to the left.

Carlos Durães wins season opener at Trofa

Carlos Durães wins season opener at Trofa

The first official 1/8 Off-Road race of the year in Portugal took place last weekend at the Trofa track. Seen as a warm up to the Nationals it was Ricardo Monteiro that took the TQ spot as he won all 3 qualifiers with his RB powered Losi 8ight. The opening 7 minutes of the main final saw a nice battle between Monteiro and Xray driver Carlos Durães with new Losi signing Miguel Matias in third, after starting in 11th due to some electrical troubles during the warm lap. Monteiro had issues during his first refueling which dropped him back and allowed Durães up the 1st where he stayed until the end. Miguel Matias also benefitted from Monteiro’s problems and moved up to 2nd where he finished, ahead of Nuno Casal Ribeiro, a good result for this local Crono driver.

ROAR form official 4wd SCT class

ROAR combine 1/8th & Sedan Gas Nationals

The ROAR Executive Committee and Section Chairs, working with various Affiliate Partners, just announced the formation of the Official ROAR 1:10 scale 4 wheel drive short course truck racing class. Their teams set the following guidelines as they leveraged their 4wd SCT Specs and SCT Body Specs to introduce the 4×4 SCT Class. The ROAR Rule book, the online version, will be updated in the next day or two and you can find those changes in colored font. The printed version will not reflect this addition.

Our Guiding Principals for Short Course Truck Racing Classes were:
1 – Keeping these Classes (SCT 2wd and 4wd) true to scale appearance
2 – Keep these trucks from going too fast so to provide competitive racing at reasonable speeds
3 – Keep the cost of entry AND cost to continue operating as low as possible
4 – Keep the class fun in nature
