Adam Drake doubles at Brazilian 1/8th Off-road Nats

RC Guacu track of Sao Paulo played host to the Brazilian 1/8th Off-road Nationals with the 4-day event having over 100 entries. Mugen’s Adam Drake was the top qualifier in all four rounds of qualifying for nitro buggy and nitro truck. Adam then went on to win both the 30-minutes semi final and also the 60-minutes nitro buggy main final and he would also come out on top of the 20-minute truck semi and 40-minute main to round out a perfect weekend. However, as Adam was a guest driver and the Brazilian championship standard does not allow a foreign driver to win, Drake wasn’t rewarded with the respective titles and it was Marco Roseria Amaral (TLR) who took the 2017 championship titles in both the Nitro Buggy and Nitro Truggy classes.

Unfortunately bad weather on Saturday meant all qualifiers and mains had to take place on Sunday and in the Stadium Truck class it was Philip Jeisy (Xray) with the TQ and a sixth win in a row, meaning he would take the Swiss national champion title with one round to spare. Behind him, Jan Dissler (Team Associated) would come in 2nd from Martin Weidmann (Xray) 3rd.

The organisers had created a new layout for the huge astro turf track and in the 2WD Buggy and 4WD Buggy classes it was Xray’s Kaja Novotny who managed to TQ all round of qualifying to take the pole positions in the respective classes. In the opening 2WD A-main Kaja suffered bad luck as a piece of astro turf caused havoc to his car which allowed Ales Bidovsky to take the win. A2 then was a done deal for Kaja which meant the final A-main would decide over the race win and also the overall title. For three minutes Kaja and Ales would have a great fight until the latter made a mistake and so Kaja would cruise to the win and the overall championship. Another fight was on for the overall 3rd place between Marek Schiller and Milan Mudra. Ultimately Milan would prevail to take the final podium spot.
