Sun Young Hwang FX-powered for 2017 and bejond

FX Engines have announced the signing of multiple Korean national champion Sun Young Hwang to their team. Sun Young will power his Xray ride using FX’s range of nitro engines at events throughout Korea and also at major races in Thailand, the Philippines and China. Sun Young says:

I am very happy and thankful to be a FX Engine Factory Driver. I believe this engine will continuously evolve into a really good engine. I will do my best effort so that many 1:8 off-road users in Korea can produce the best performance with FX engine. Many thanks to FX and Team James Racing for giving me such a good opportunity.

Sun Young Hwang teams up with Xray

Xray have announced the signing of Korean Nitro Off-road frontrunner, Sun Young Hwang to their team. Multiple national champion since 2005 Hwang also achieved 1st place finishes at events such as the 2017 O.S. Engines Challenge and the DCRC Challenge and he has the following to say about the deal:

I think it is my greatest honor in my life to be an Xray Factory driver. I will do my best to honor the brand and performance with Xray vehicle in Korea. I would like thank to Team James Racing (James Park) and Xray staff. I hope this would be a good example for the next-generation drivers.

Ty Tessmann TQs & wins at Sikcross Race

The 2017 Sikcross Race was held at Southern California’s Pro-Line test track. The race was put on by Levi Jackson with Sik Track Designs and the format was different than the standard IFMAR qualifying, as it is setup more like motocross event with heads up gate starts. The first two rounds of Expert Nitro Buggy qualifying were won by Xray’s Ty Tessmann and after a resort, he was qualifying in the last one in a heads up race with Mugen’s Ryan Maifield who won his first two rounds of qualifying. The two had a really good battle, swapping positions back and forth a couple of times, but when coming out of the sand trap on the last lap, Ty hit a hole that he knew was there but he couldn’t see his car well due to the dust from the sand trap. Tessmann took a tumble and Maifield got by to TQ the final round. However Tessmann was able to take the overall TQ with Maifield qualifying 2nd overall.

Swiss 1/10th Electric Off-road Nationals Rd5 – Report

Round 5 of the Swiss Electric Off-road National Championship was held in Obernau in changing weather conditions. In the 2WD Modified Buggy class it was Nico Schmid with the TQ and he would also top qualify the 4WD Mod Buggy class while the Stadium Trucks had Philip Jeisy coming out on top after the qualifiers. In the 2WD main Nico would be able to conserve his performance, taking the overall win from Patrick Hofer 2nd and Florian Schmid 3rd.

Fall Super Cup Championship Series – Report

The Fall edition of the JConcepts Super Cup Championship Series started off with a bang at Beachline Raceway in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Having already held a Spring Super Cup on the astroturf earlier in the year, Beachline learned a lot from the previous visit making a track that was more enjoyable with lower speeds, better jumps, smooth piping, and a very solid race program. The layout was a lot of fun.

Tom Sommer wins Bavarian Nitro Buggy Championships

The 2017 Bavarian Nitro Buggy Championships were held in Landshut last weekend. Mugen racer Tom Sommer would snatch the pole position for the double A-mains and right from the start of the two mains he would be able to pull away, with only Michael Wintersberger able to stay in touch. At the end Tom would take the overall win and was handed the enormous challenge cup. Michael Wintersberger came home in 2nd for a Mugen 1-2 while HB Racing’s Stephan Bauer rounded out the top 3.

Cameron Zammit takes double Driver Series titles

Round 4 of the Victorian Championship Driver Series was held in Barmah on a very technical and challenging track. Cameron Zammit managed to TQ both the Pro Buggy and Pro Truggy classes and he also snatched the wins in both 30-minute finals. As a result Camerin also took out the Victorian Championship driver series in both classes.

2017 Belgian SCT Cup Rd5 – Report

Round 5 of the 2017 Belgian SCR Cup was traditionally held on the iconic MBV Kampenhout track. The flawless organisation allowed to run four instead of the usual three qualifiers, giving the drivers more opportunities to improve their lap times, on the very technical and demanding track that requires a good rhythm. The qualifiers started on a wet track but it dried up quickly with the nice and sunny weather making for good but not too high grip levels all day long.
