EOS reaches conclusion at Nurburgring with 4WD title still to be decided

The 2015/16 Euro Offroad Series reaches a conclusion this weekend (29-April/1-May) with the deciding of the 4WD champion the main order of business for the weekend. With Season #5 successfully kicking off at the legendary Nurburgring last September, the Championship finds itself returning to the famous 1:1 race circuit after problems with the original Austrian location. The perfect stage for the high profile 1:10 Offroad Championship, the first visit on the same weekend as the Blancpain GT Championship running on the Grand Prix circuit, some of the world’s best rc drivers will again enjoying racing alongside the rumble of Porsche, Audi & BMW GT cars who this time round are racing on the iconic 20.8 km long Nordschleife circuit. Having made his EOS debut on the first visit to the Nurburgring, it is World Champion Bruno Coelho who comes into the fourth & final round as the 4WD championship leader. Missing the podium then, the Portuguese driver has since won everything with only reigning champion Lee Martin now able to deny Coelho an EOS title in his inaugural season.

Rico, Mitch & Olson win at Comstock Challenge

The first Comstock Challenge was held at the newly reopened Track Time Hobbies and Raceway located in Reno, Nevada. This year’s race saw people travelling from as far as Sacramento and Las Vegas to compete in the 122 entry race. The weekend started off with a club race on Friday night followed by practice and the first qualifiers on Saturday with a final qualifier and the mains on Sunday. The 4WD Modified Buggy A-main was then won by Rudy Rico while the Modified Truck class had JR Mitch coming out successful. In 4×4 SCT Matt Olson would end the day on top of the podium.

Ryan Cavalieri to run Savox servos

Savox USA have announced that Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri has chosen their servos to control his race cars. The 4-time IFMAR World Champion and 3-time winner of the prestigious Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions had this to say after driving Savox servos: “The centering torque and control were amazing. I felt much more connected to the car”. Savox customers can expect further innovation and new products as a result of this collaboration.

JQ doubles at JQRacing event in the Dominican Republic

JQRacing’s Joseph Quagraine, currently on sort of a World trip, flew over to the Dominican Republic for the 1st JQRacing event. The race saw an RC clinic on Saturday and a race on Sunday with the track being a unique zig zagging between coconut trees, with a true exotic and off-road feel. JQ managed to win both 1/8th Nitro and Electric classes, with local Kyosho driver Carlos Sikora coming in second in both categories. Luis José Cabral would then finish third in Nitro, and Elvin Alba grabbed the final podium spot in E-Buggy.

Tasos Paparegas wins Greek Buggy Nationals Rd1

Round one of the Greek National Buggy Championship was held in Crete and it saw Xray’s Tasos Paparegas (Xray) taking the win in the 45 minute A-main. Coming from the 3 spot on the grid Tasos moved his way up the field to take the day’s win from runner-up Terzis (Mugen) while Anapoliotakis (Mugen) completed the top 3 result. Behind the three Perogiannakis (Mugen) and Papanikolaou (Kyosho) would round out the top 5.

Adam Drake sweeps 2016 Philippine Masters

This past weekend the Philippine Masters was held at Quezon City Radio Control Car Club. The event hosted many drivers from throughout Asia as well as Adam Drake and Aaron Gomez from the USA. Quezon City Radio Control Car Club has been around for nearly twenty years and has host the last six Philippine Masters. Saturday was Nitro Buggy racing and consisted of three rounds of qualifying, using rocket round due to the consistency of the track. Adam Drake was the top qualifier in Nitro Buggy followed by teammate Aaron Gomez. The 60-minute Nitro Buggy final was under the lights on Saturday night and Adam Drake won the main by a large margin. Sunday was Nitro Truck and 1/8th E-Buggy racing using the same format as Saturday. Adam Drake again was the top qualifier and won the 60-minute final while in the E-Buggy class Edward Sio came out fastest.

Tanner Day doubles at Kyosho 3 Lap Challenge

The 2nd running of the Kyosho 3 Lap Challenge took place at Nor-Cal Hobbies in San Jose, California this past weekend. In a break from the traditional qualifying format, the fastest three consecutive laps comprised the contestants’ times. To add even more challenges, dirt engineer Anton Aaroe designed a track layout specifically for this event, complete with a wicked challenging large quad jump that tripped up many drivers and shone a spotlight on those that conquered it. It was an accomplishment for drivers to complete one fast lap, let alone three, making for an exciting and unpredictable race. In Modified 2WD Buggy, Tanner Day held TQ over fellow team mate Charlie Cavalier by 1.9 seconds. In the main event, a mistake by Tanner in the quad jump put Charlie in the lead, but only for a minute. The 17-year old regained the lead and won with Charlie 2nd, and Antonio Counsil 3rd.

The opening round of the Austrian 1/8th E-Buggy national championship was held at the famous and European Championship approved Fehring multi-surface track. The qualifiers saw Christian Landl (Mugen) taking the TQ honours by TQing two of the five rounds to leave Thomas Mayr (SWorkz) and Hupo Hönigl (Xray) behind in second and third. After the triple A-mains Thomas would then come out successful thanks to wins in A2 and A3, leaving Jürgen Trieb (SWorkz) behind in second place. TQ Christian Landl had to settle for third overall.
