Reds Racing electric power for Cody King

Reds Racing have announced that 2010 IFMAR 1/8th Nitro Buggy World Champion, Cody King will be using Reds Racing electronics in his 1/8th and 1/10th rides for the 2016 and 2017 season. The Kyosho factory driver had its maiden outing for his new sponsors at last weekend’s Reedy Race of Champions and he had the following to say about the move:

I want to announce I will be running Reds Racing electronics in my electric powered vehicles. I’m looking forward to working closely with Reds, the team drivers, and customers on set-up and race support.

Seth VanDalen wins at Sub Zero Challenge

This weekend was the 3rd annual Sub Zero Challenge at 510 Raceway in Foley, Minnesota. The 4×4 short course class was TQ’d by young Seth VanDalen and he would take wins in A1 and A3 to grab the overall victory from Sam Sovacool in second and Alan Smith in third.

Double TQ & win for Cathcart at Coliseum Classic race

The 2016 Coliseum Classic race was held at RC Fun Park and it was Drek Cathcart who took the a double TQ in the 1/8th E-Buggy and SC 4×4 classes. In the finals Derek easily drove away from the field to top off a perfect weekend. Derek was sidelined by Todd Pfahler and Jarred Nave on the E-Buggy podium while RJ Hart and Steve Hodgson came in second and third in the SC 4×4 class.

Hupo Hönigl trifecta at Slovakia Cup Rd4

The Hudy Racing Arena played host to round four of the Slovakia Cup over the weekend. The event attracted a record breaking 140 entries including some international guests. The 1/10th Buggy classes saw newly signed Xray driver Hupo Hönigl coming out fastest in 2WD while Martin Bayer was the man to beat in the 4WD qualifiers. Hupo would continue to dominate in the 2WD mains as he won all three legs to take the overall win from Martin Bayer (Xray) and Juraj Hudy (Xray).

Renaud Savoya signs with TLR

Horizon Hobby France have announced the signing of French frontrunner Renaud Savoya to their team. The multi-time European Champion was released by his former chassis sponsors HPI/HB at the beginning of January and he now found a new home at Horizon Hobby and TLR. Jerome Chambon of Horizon Hobby France has the following to say about the deal:

Horizon Hobby and Team Losi Racing are pleased to welcome Reno Savoya to the Horizon Hobby France team. Reno will proudly sport our colours, not the mention the ones of our friends of RC Concept this season and beyond. Lorenzo Crolla doubles at GP of Lyon

The fourth annual GP of Lyon was held over the weekend and as usual the event attracted some the country’s fastest drivers. In the 2WD Buggy class Xray’s Lorenzo Crolla would win the double A-mains to take the overall victory, coming from the 2 spot on the grid. Renaud Savoya ended the day on the second spot in front of Stephane Deroch (Team C).

Jackson & Bird win at HNMC Winter Series Rd7

Round 7 of the popular HNMC Winter Series was held over the weekend. Hopes were that the race would be run on the dirt track but good old british winter weather put an end to it with misty raining first thing in the morning. Jamie Clancy dominated qualifying in the Nitro Buggy and E-Buggy classes with a very happy Steve Brunsden taking the Truggy TQ. The Nitro Buggy A-main than saw Karl Jackson coming out fastest from Darren Hayden and Gary Brace in second and third respectively. E-Buggy was won by TQ holder Jamie with Daniel Austin grabbing the runner-up spot. Ian Fuller rounded out the top 3 result. Finally in Nitro Truggy Peter Bird would take the day’s win from Martin Hard in second and Dominic Powles in third.

Phend is Reedy Race Champion

Phend is Reedy Race Champion

Dakotah Phend is the champion of the 22nd running of the world famous Reedy Race of Champions.  With three drivers in contention going into the deciding round of heads up racing at OCRC Raceway in California, Phend would pull off the biggest win of his career with a copy book final race. Starting from 5th on the grid and with a DNF from the first round of 4WD to drop, the 18-year-old kept his nose clean at the start and helped by a pile up at the first run through the JConcepts kicker came out of the first lap with a lead he wouldn’t relinquish. Running in Race 2 of the final round, Ryan Maifield and Spencer Rivkin lining up in Race 3, the result sealed the title for Phend with the Michigan driver becoming the 16th name to be added to Mike Reedy Heritage Trophy.  With Maifield taking the win in the final race, Rivkin ending up fourth, the outgoing champion would secure second overall with Rivkin completing the podium.
