2nd Mibosport Offroad Meeting – Report

The 2nd Mibosport Offroad Meeting was held the last weekend at the Mibosport Off-road Arena’s astroturf track in Trebic. Unfortunately only 27 drivers signed in for the event with 15 drivers attending in the 2WD class and 12 drivers opted to run their 4WD buggies. Free practice was run on Friday afternoon with two timed practice rounds on Saturday morning. The fastest drivers in timed practice were Michal Orlowski in the 2WD class and Radek Flek in the 4WD class.

Ryan Maifield goes Team Orion

Only days after the news of Ryan Maifield leaving his long-term sponsors Team Associated, Reedy and LRP, Team Orion announce Ryan’s signing through 2015. Ryan will be utilising all of Team Orion’s 1/10 & 1/8 electric products such motors, speed controllers, batteries, servos and chargers. The 11-times ROAR national champion brings great knowledge and experience to Team Orion and he will play a big role in the company’s research and development team while being part of the “Strong Six” US team with the likes of Ryan Cavalieri, Jared Tebo, Dakotah Phend, Dustin Evans, and Ty Tessman. Ryan has this to say about the deal:

I have always thought of Team Orion as the “bench mark” of quality and performance in the R/C industry. I told myself if I ever had the opportunity to race for Team Orion, I would do it. I’m extremely excited to start working with everyone at Team Orion and looking forward to showing what I can do with all their amazing equipment. Darren Bloomfield wins at Eden Park

The 1/10th Off Road BRCA National series moved on to Eden Park Raceway, South East London for the 4th round of the highly competitive series. Whilst the 2WD championship is still relatively open, with 3 different winners from the first 3 nationals, 4WD was a different story with Neil Cragg looking to wrap up the series. The club have made a few changes to the track, removing some of the more vicious curbs and opening up new layouts, giving them opportunity to lay a fresh layout for both days. Saturday morning started sunny and dry, the racers on Yellow Minispikes for their double 3 minute practices, but the discussion was all about when the threatened rain would arrive, and we did not have to wait long, arriving midway through round 1, leaving Richard Thorpe to make the most of the opportunity to take round 1.

Jason Nugroho wins Lap Paradise Challenge

The Lap Paradise Challenge was held in Johor Bahru with 50 entries from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Switzerland in attendance. The race format saw three rounds of 10 minute qualifying with the best round to count and “Christmas tree” bump-up finals. Jason Nugroho was able to TQ the first two rounds of qualifying until Didier Perrin from Switzerland took the overall TQ in the 3rd and final qualifier.

Maifield bids farewell to Associated

With Team Associated having confirmed his exit from their team, effective July 1st, Ryan Maifield has sent us the following statement bidding farewell to the team that gave him his big break some 13 years ago.

As most of you have heard Associated/Reedy and I have parted ways. I have had a lot of success, fun and great experiences with the guys at Associated over the years and I will always cherish those memories. I want to thank them for everything they have done for me so far in my career, especially Brent Thielke, Richard Saxton, Sean Cockran, and Cliff Lett. Without their guidance and support I couldn’t have accomplished what I have accomplished. Especially early on in my career, they gave me everything I needed to be successful in this industry, on and off the track and I will always appreciate that. I hope to remain friends with everyone at Associated and I wish them luck in the future.

Jerome Aigoin wins rain affected French champs Rd4

The 4th round of the French Elite championship was run in the town of Les Andelys in the North of France. Known for being a very rainy region, this weekend made no exception. On Saturday only two rounds of qualifying could be completed with Jerome Aogoin taking the overnight TQ. More rain during the night and on Sunday morning forced the organisers to cancel the race, taking the qualifying results to determine the winner. Therefore Jerome Aigoin (Kyosho) was handed the win in front of Renaud Savoya (Xray) and Jummy Weimann (Kyosho).

Chris Wheeler joins Team Tekin

Tekin announce the addition of TLR factory driver Chris Wheeler to their team. Chris is a very accomplished racer out of Arizona and his recent accomplishments include taking 3rd in the 2WD Mod SCT division at the 2014 Cactus Classic. Chris is making his Tekin debut this weekend at the SDRC Top Gun Shootout.

Team Associated confirm Ryan Maifield exit

Associated confirm Ryan Maifield exit

Team Associated have confirmed that they are parting ways with multiple ROAR National Champion Ryan Maifield effective July 1st. In a message on their FB page, which lists the impressive collection of victories achieved together since they signed the young Arizona racer back in 2003, Team Associated said the following.

Discovered by industry legend Mike Reedy as a young teenager, Ryan burst onto the scene in 2003 by taking an impressive victory at the prestigious Cactus Classic with the just released RC10B4. For more than a decade the dynamic combination of Associated, Reedy, LRP and Maifield compiled a list of championships that is one of the most impressive to date. Team Associated and Reedy have nurtured many champions over the years, and Ryan Maifield will go down in history as one of the best. All of us at Team Associated and Reedy have cherished the time helping Ryan grow into the champion he is today, and wish him the best of luck in all his endeavours; both on and off the track.

Continuing to run with other main sponsors JConcepts and Novarossi, Ryan is expected to confirm his new car and electronics sponsor (expected to be TLR and Orion) in the coming days/weeks ahead of the 2014 ROAR Electric Nationals in Florida and the IFMAR Worlds which will take place later this year in Italy.
