Karstens wins Mod Truck at Hobby Haven Shootout

Karstens wins Mod Truck at Hobby Haven Shootout

The annual Hobby Haven Offroad Shootout has been around for over a decade and has become one of the largest off-road races in the Midwest. This year the organisers capped the entries at 250 and the race filled up on rcsignup.com 4 weeks before the event date. After qualifying a huge thunderstorm rolled through the area Saturday night and when the drivers showed up at the track Sunday morning many were very sceptical that their cars would even touch the track. After some serious work from a few of the locals, the track was starting to come around. With the delay from the wet track all the racers took a vote and decided to skip the triple A-mains and go with single mains to speed up the day. JConcepts Chad Karstens (Team Associated) was in third place the first couple of laps in the Modified Truck A main with Fellow JConcepts drivers Cole Tollard and Rod Rippee (both Team Associated) were first and second but Cole got a little sideways going into a rhythm section. Chad was able to squeeze the throttle and move to the outside passing both Cole and Rod at the same time. He then built a 2 to 3 second lead and was able to hold that gap for the rest of the race taking the win. Cole finished second and Rod came in third.

The 2013 Byron Heartland Challenge took place at the Hobbytown Hobbyplex raceway in Omaha, Nebraska. In the Nitro Buggy class Kyosho’s Cody King took TQ and he had to battle hard with Team Durango’s Ryan Lutz for the win. Struggling with engine setup a flame out of Ryan gave Cody room to breathe and the needed time to correct the carburettor setting and to take the win. With Ryan in second the Buggy podium was completed by Chad Parks (Team Associated). In the Nitro Truggy class it was again Cody who took the TQ and winning honours. Ryan Lutz (Team Durango) came in second and Zach Phillips (Kyosho) rounded out the podium.

Hupo Hönigl wins Austrian buggy nats Rd4

Hupo Hönigl wins Austrian buggy nats Rd4

The fourth round of the Austrian electric off-road nationals took place in Krieglach. 36 drivers in 2WD and 28 entries in 4WD tried to tackle the dusty clay track that got better during the practice heats but later on started to break up. Some drivers tried to race mid motor buggies in 2WD one of which was Team Durango’s Hupo Hönigl, but the tricky surface made the buggies difficult to drive and since these cars need a different racing line most of the drivers came back to rear motor machines for the qualifiers and finals. Sunday Morning started with four rounds of qualifying and when the dust settled the Team Durango duo of Hupo Hönigl and Martin Kreil lead in 2WD with equal points, but a faster time gave Hupo the TQ spot. 3rd and 4th went to the Team Associated duo Pinisch/Pfeifhofer, also equal in points with 3rd going to Peter Pinisch. In 4WD Hupo took 3 out of 4 rounds, taking the TQ in front of Yokomo’s René Trauner and Stefan Pfeifhofer (Team Associated) with Martin Kreil in 4th and Pinisch in 5th position.
