Robert Battle wins rain affected EFRA GP

Robert Battle wins rain affected EFRA GP

The French EFRA GP, warm-up for the 1/8th off-road European Championship A, took place in Reims this weekend. The racing was held under terrible weather conditions and had to be cancelled 10 minutes into the first semi final, which was being led by Renaud Savoya, due to pouring rain and a flooded track. The decision was made to base the final results on qualifying awarding 2012 World Champion Robert Battle with the win. Second place went to Jerome Aigoin who was tied on points with Jerome Sartel. Lee Martin and Renaud Savoya ended up fourth and fifth respectively.

Paddy Piston Race – Announcement

Paddy Piston Race - Announcement

Our friends at 1:8 Offroad racing club BADMCC in Northern Ireland have been in contact to let us now about their upcoming (25-26 May) Paddy Piston Race which is now in its fifth year.  Held at the club’s impressive track in Graigavon, on which they have carried out extensive work in preparation for the big event, former winners of the race include European Champion Darren Bloomfield, Richard Cree and Graham Alsop who returns this year in search of a hat trick of wins having won the event for the past two years. With the emphasis on offering drivers a great weekend of value, fun and hospitality, the race format will see all drivers get almost 2-hours of track time and on Saturday night the club will host a BBQ, which we have heard can run late into the night. Restricted to 84 drivers, the race uses a controlled tyre with a set, along with inserts and wheels included in the entry fee.  A small number of places are still available for the Paddy Piston Race and interested drivers should contact the club at badmcc@talktalk.net.

Neo Race 2013 – Entry Open

Neo Race 2013 - Entry Open

Our friends at Neo Buggy & DXR have announced that entry for the 2013 Neo Race is now open. The 8th running of the Neo Race sees a few changes, the biggest include a date change from the regular Easter slot to a summer event: 22-26th August 2013; knowing the British weather as we do, the roof will probably come in handy though. The Agricultural College Harper Adams in Shropshire is once again the venue for the event, now 5 days in length with increased track time for all participants as well as a special 1/8 electric buggy class – limited to 30 drivers, the main nitro buggy class is limited to 250 entries. Qualifying will use 6 minute heats and the best four rounds from six will count. After the success of the special races in the past they return with a few additions; juniors final, oldies final, the Dash4Cash for the top qualifiers, Bash4Cash, Last Chance Qualifier and a ‘Pole Position Challenge’ – details revealed soon. Those interested can enter via www.RC411.net, see the ‘Sign Up page’ for details how to enter.

The weather stayed perfect for the practice sessions scheduled on Thursday and Friday until 5pm, giving all drivers ample opportunity to get out on the track. The first set of heats took place on Friday afternoon, with another three sets planned for the following day. Worsening weather conditions on Saturday, however, meant that for virtually all of the groups the fourth set fell victim to the rain.

Mark Lim dominates NOOB Singapore Rd3

Mark Lim double at NOOB Singapore Rd3

Round 3 of the NOOB Singapore Open Buggy Series took place last weekend at the RaceWorks Arena. Racers gathered to do battle with their 2WD and 4WD buggies under the blistering hot sun. In the 4WD class, it was a battle between series leaders Tein, Mark “BC” Lim and Joakim. As the qualifiers concluded, Tein drew first blood by taking the Top Qualifier spot with BC in close second and Joakim third on the grid. The 3 racers hogged all top 3 spots in the first and second leg of the finals with BC taking the win in Leg 1 and Tein in Leg 2, which meant that the final leg would determine the overall result. As the much anticipated Leg 3 kicked off, Tein popped a turnbuckle early on in the first lap effectively ending his race chances, BC capitalized on the opportunity and led the race from start to finish to take Leg 3 and emerge the overall champion with Tein in second position and Joakim finishing strong in third.
