Andrew Smolnik wins 4th Annual Fall Brawl

This years 4th Annual Fall Brawl in Maplesville, Alabama provided great weather and some even better racing. The Snake Pit Layout was hard packed red Georgia clay and with the track run dry the blue groove formed and traction was plentiful. Stuart Mahon wins 2nd annual Race of Champions

Last weekend saw the 2nd running of the ‘Race of Champions’ event taking place at the NNRC track near Blackpool in the North of the country. The event is the end-of-year ‘Race-Off’ between the Top 20 qualifying drivers from each of the 8th Scale Off Road Regions run throughout the year in the UK – it is the brain child of Glyn Morgan (8-11 series organiser) and is organised to challenge the best drivers from the 8-11 Series, NRS, SRS Series and the Scottish Region. It is a one-off race and is a great way of pitting each region against each other in a fun, but competitive end of season race.

Renato Tradardi Jr wins Venezuelan Truggy Nats

Renato Tradardi Jr wins Venezuelan Truggy Nats

The Venezuelan National Championship took place last weekend at the Pista Club ITALO track in Cagua. Event though Team Associated Team member Renato Tradardi Jr. had not been racing for a while because he was away in Italy, he and his RC8T were nevertheless able to get up to speed quickly in the controlled practices for his class. He ended a respectable second and his father Renato third for the Grand Final. Not bad for a two-month absence from racing. In the finals it started to rain and the track became slippery. Making a decisive tire choice Renato Jr. led the field from the first round, and as the track dried and traction improved, the Team Associated RC8T excelled and he took the win.

Ellis Stafford signs 2 year extension with X-Factory

Ellis Stafford signs to X-Factory for 2 more years

X-Factory have announced that multiple British Champion Ellis Stafford has signed to race their cars for two more years. Ellis said “I continue to be excited driving for X-Factory. Back in 2006 when I first started with the X-Team, we had the X-5 Squared and the original X-6 and they were the fastest, most innovative cars around. I won the U.K. Championship in ’08 with the 6, but we didn’t stand on our laurels, we designed and raced the 6 Squared to the title in 09, making two years in a row. I tied for the Championship with the Squared in 2010, and I think it’s still the fastest 2WD buggy out there.” “It’s the X-7 that excites me now. Again X-Factory is leaping ahead with an innovative new design, and I’m so happy to be a part of the design team. I took my prototype X-7 to a club race win the other weekend and it was very good indeed. 2012 and 2013 will be my most exciting years of R/C racing!”

Martin Sørlie wins Norwegian Cup Series

Martin Sørlie wins Norwegian Cup Series

Last weekend the final round of the Norwegian Cup Series was held at Radøy RC’s track, about an hour away from the coastal city of Bergen. It was a bumpy astro track with high grip, and although this place is far away from most drivers and often has bad weather, participation was surprisingly high. In 2wd Martin Sørlie running his Team Orion Powered TLR 22 was nearly guaranteed the win in the Norwegian cup with the most points, and with a TQ & 2nd place finish he did so with a 75 point lead ahead of Frode Pedersen and Niklas Bjørkå Roos, both running 22’s as well. In 4wd it was a lot more competition, as there were five drivers theoretically in contention of the cup win. The points from four out of five races count, and having run and won only two races, Martin would need to win this last race with his Team Orion Powered Yokomo Bmax to be able to win the cup. Qualifying second on the grid and winning two of the mains, meant he did his job. 2nd and 3rd place went to Niklas Bjørkå Roos (Schumacher) and Arne-Peder Flesvik (Yokomo).

Thanks to Martin Sørlie for the report.
