Cockerill wins 2wd Nats in Cougar SV debut season

Cockerill wins 2wd Nats in Cougar SV debut season

Schumacher were in touch to tell us that in its debut season the Cougar SV has won the BRCA British 2WD Off Road Championship. Congratulations to Tom Cockerill who secured the title at the last round of the series at the Stotfold track this weekend.  In spite of having an off day and only making the B final Tom’s main championship contenders failed to improve on their points scores so Tom watched on and won the championship from his marshalling post. However the Cougar SV was working extremely well on the wet slippery track with 5 Cougar SV’s making the final.  With Simon Moss finishing an excellent 3rd and congratulations to Dave Poulter and Lloyd Storey who both made their first national A finals with the Cougar SV.  Grant Williams and Jonathan Palmer rounded out the 5 cars in the A, in what was an excellent team performance.

Tom Cockerill wins BRCA 2wd title

Tom Cockerill wins BRCA 2wd title

oOple are reporting that in a closely fought 2wd championship, Tom Cockerill took the overall win in the 2010 BRCA National series at the very last final of the day at the final meeting of the year held at Stotfold yesterday. It wasn’t the way Tom would have liked to take the championship, sitting in the B final and marshalling the A, but Tom got to watch the proceedings. Ellis Stafford would need to win the meeting to snatch it away from Tom and with one win a piece between Ellis and Kevin Lee, it was down to the last leg of the A to decide the overall championship positions. Kevin Lee walked away from the rest to take the victory and this meant the title went to Cockerill and sponsors Schumacher and Speed Passion.

Pettit & Borkowicz win at Wiregrass Indoor Nationals

Pettit & Borkowicz win at Wiregrass Indoor Nationals

This past weekend the annual Wiregrass Nationals were held in Ozark, Alabama. The temperature was hot but the heavy showers on Friday and Saturday provided some temporary relief from the heat. The metal roof over the track protected the track from the elements, but there was no protecting the surface from the thrashing of the cars and trucks throughout the day. The packed surface quickly gave way to the underlying sandy base providing some true off road racing with major dips, craters, and ruts. Drivers picked their racing lines carefully and were prepared to change as the race progressed. The Wiregrass crew with race announcer Carlton Eppes did a fantastic job of running the show and everything ran smoothly and timely.

Phil Sleigh wins 2010 UK Micro X

Phil Sleigh wins 2010 UK Micro X

The first signs of a promising season ahead were seen last weekend when new Castle Creations signing Mark Stiles took 2nd place at the 2010 UK Micro X event. Mark was driving a long wheelbase LRP shark ST equipped with a Castle Creations Micro Pro speed controller and CM20 8000kV motor. Mark is the reigning British champion in the micro off road class, so was among the favorites coming into the event. On the day he lost out to 1/10th electric off road specialist Phil Sleigh, who was driving a pre-production version of Carisma’s new car. The wider track of Phil’s car compared to his competitors rides meant that he had a clear stability advantage over his rivals, and despite Mark managing to TQ the second round of qualifying, Phil was never really troubled on route to taking overall TQ and the A final victory. Mark had a close battle with fellow LRP Shark runner Andy Jones and eventually came out on top in what was a closely fought contest.

Thanks to Mark Stiles for the update.

Sweep Racing sign Jeremy Potter

Sweep Racing sign Jeremy Potter

Sweep Racing have announced the signing of 2009 ROAR Electric Offroad 1/8th scale champion Jeremy Potter. Joining their ever growing racing Jeremy had the following to say:

I ran my Sweeps for the first time last night at a local club race. I started out with the Silver Exagon tires in Qualifying as the track was a bit dusty on top with a slight groove underneath. I was amazed at the amount of steering and side bite these tires had. The forward bit was exceptional also. I TQ’d both rounds by over a lap. After 20 minutes of practice and qualifying the tires showed very little wear even in 90 degree weather. For the main I put on a set of red Dirt Effects and was happy I made that choice. The car was so easy to drive and tire wear after 15 minutes was non-existent.

Asia EP Buggy Championship China Rd2

Asia EP Buggy Championship China Rd2

The 2nd round of the Asia EP Buggy Championship China Selection was held last weekend at Shanghai United Raceway. The weather was good, the track was big and the layout was very challenging with plenty of technical turns, a long straight and a pair of banked corners. Due to the dry conditions in the build up to the race the ground was very dry and hard and the track condition was a bit dusty with medium grip surface in the dry. All racers in 4WD & 2WD class were only allowed to use one set of tyres for the entire day’s 3 qualifiers and finals. The 4wd final was won by TQ John Ho, driving a Durango DEX410 ahead of Luo Yong Sheng in 2nd and Beckham in 3rd. It would be Beckham that took the win in the 2wd class with his Team C TC02 ahead of the Schumacher pairing of John Ho and Liu Nan. Round 3 of the series will be again held at Shanghai United Racewa in September.
