Richard Volta wins French 1/8 Nats Rd2

Richard Volta wins French 1/8 Nats Rd2

The second round of the French 1/8th scale on road Nationals was run last weekend in Avignon in the very south of the country. In Saturday’s qualifying for the Elite class it was round 1 winner Richard Volta that claimed the TQ spot from Stéphane Bouche and Richard Zatla, while in the National class the quickest driver during the heats was Serpent driver Mickaël Tequi, placing ahead of Romain Baehrel and Jérémy Becht. Following the Semi Finals the National class main final was run and it was a race long battle between Tequi and Baehrel, but a last minute pitstop meant the win went to Tequi, from Baehrel in 2nd and Arnaud Mathieu in 3rd. In the Elite class final Volta got straight into the lead but was hassled for the first half of the race by the chasing pair of Nicolas Guillot and Jérôme Papaconstantinos. Volta, driving a Shepherd Velox, eventually managed to pull out a gap and take the win, and following problems for Guillot, the Kyosho pairing of Papaconstantinos and Adrien Siefried finished in 2nd and 3rd.

Domenico Calce wins Italian F1 Nats Rd1

Domenico Calce wins Italian F1 Nats Rd1

The opening round of the AMSCI Italian 1/8th scale Nationals for F1 level drivers was run at the weekend in Bologna. Qualifying for the race was headed up by ATS shod Serpent racer Giordano Agostinelli with team mate Alberto Tadeshi in 2nd, and young Shepherd Velox driver Stefano Pregnolato in 3rd. In the race, Agostinelli was able to get straight into the lead but was to have some very tough battles but eventually dropped back to finish 4th while Pregnolato managed to work his way to the front thanks to some good driving, fast pit stops and some problems for the guys ahead. Near the end of the race, while still leading, the Velox driver developed some brake problems and this caused some frantic action by his pitman in his last stop which resulted in a stop and go for the young driver which lost him the lead to Serpent driver Domenico Calce, who took the lead and soon after, the win, with Pregnolato only 2 seconds back in 2nd and Alberto Tedeschi in 3rd.

Groskamp & Spitteler take ETS Rd3

ETS Rd3 Modified podium

The 3rd round of the Much More backed Euro Touring series, held at the MACH circuit in Heemstede, The Netherlands is over and it was pole man Jilles Groskamp that took the overall win. Racing under spring sunshine, Groskamp was pushed hard in all rounds of the A-main but was able to wrap up the overall win after taking the first 2 legs. Despite having some run time issues on this big track, Marc Rheinard was able to clinch 2nd while Viktor Wilck could take 3rd to give Tamiya the complete podium. In the Super Stock class, it couldn’t have come to a more exciting climax with Jimmy Maddison taking the Leg 3 victory from George Spitteler but it was the latter that secured the overall win on tie break, with pole man Vasco Christiansse ending up 3rd.

Groskamp & Christiaanse TQ Dutch ETS

Groskamp & Christiaanse TQ Dutch ETS Race

Jilles Groskamp and Vasco Christiaanse have secured the TQ for the latest round of the Much More backed Euro Touring Series which is taking place at the MACH track in the Netherlands this weekend. Racing in his backyard, Tamiya ace Groskamp won three of todays four heats thereby putting the pole position out of reach of his rivals. Toughest of those rivals is current Dutch National Vice-Champion Hugo Van der Berg who took victory in the second of the heats and is currently on target to line up on the front row with his fellow countryman. In Pro Stock Vasco Christiaanse appears to be the class of the field securing the pole with relative ease taking a hat trick of wins in the first three heats that allowed the Kyosho driver to sit out the day’s final qualifier and save his tyres for tomorrow’s final. Chris Van Der Hagen, at the controls of a Tamiya took the final heat win of the day to move into fourth in the overall qualifying standings behind Schumacher pairing Jimmy Maddison and Ronald Bestman.

Daan Jacobs wins Dutch 10th Nats Rd1

Daan Jacobs wins Dutch 200mm Nats Rd1

The opening round of the Dutch 1/10th 200mm Nationals was run last weekend in Groningen in the very north of the country. Changing weather conditions affected everyone and for the NK class it was Serpent racer Remy Moller that claimed the pole position in front of his team mate Ruud Schuitmaker. In the final Remy immediately got into the lead but unfortunately had technical problems with put him out and handed the lead to Schuitmaker with Kyosho driver Daan Jacobs just behind in 2nd. Koen Geurds had come from the 10th spot on the grid making up some places and could close on the leading pair, who were busy battling over position. Unfortunately for Koen, in the last 5 minutes his tyres were worn out and this made it difficult to get into a battle with the front 2 drivers. Ruud and Daan had been at it the entire race and on the last lap Ruud made a small mistake at the end of the main straight, clipping the inside of the corner and spinning his car around (see sequence below), this was enough for Daan to get by and take the win with Ruud less than a second behind in 2nd and Koen in 3rd only under a second further back.

ETS Round 4 in Austria Cancelled

2008 European Touring Series

The organisers of the Much More backed European Touring Series have informed us that their 4th round, which was due to take place in Vienna Austria on the 9th – 11th of May, has had to be cancelled. Due to conflicts with other events on the same weekend in Austria, the host club were unable to hold this event on the same weekend and due to busy schedules there are no other options to move this round to another date. The plan is to race in Austria for the 2008-2009 series so the ETS will be happening in Vienna at some stage.

This weekends round 3 in the Netherlands is going ahead as usual and is looking to be a great race with some super quick drivers present and most importantly the weather is looking like it will be dry.
