The 2020 XRS Australia kicked off with a bang and 40 degree temperatures for the day in western Sydney, but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Just on 50 entries is a great start to the XRS, considering the Whalan Club has minimal members, it was great to see the local clubs supporting the event. In Modified, Xray’s Ari Bakla took the win ahead Yokomo’s John Puse and ARC’s Lionel Saunders.

The third round of the 2019/20 Essex Winter Series took place last weekend, and once again featured another full capacity entry across the Modified, Super Stock and Front Wheel Drive classes. In the Modified class, Elliott Harper held the championship lead with maximum points in the first two rounds of the series, but would face a new challenge this time out with his Xray team-mate Alexander Hagberg making a return to the series for this event, and long-term rival Chris Grainger having his debut race for Awesomatix following his move to the Russian brand for the 2020 season.

Following his recent departure from long-term engine sponsors Novarossi Simon Kurzbuch has announced his new partnership with O.S. Engines from Japan. The former IFMAR World Champion will power his Shepherd rides using O.S. power plants this season and he has the following to say about the deal:

The brand & engines have shown a great performance during the last years and I’m proud for the trust and the to be a part of that. The Barceloneta RC Complex of Barceloneta, Puerto Rico held the opening round of their Nitro Electric On-road Series last weekend with nearly 60 entries. In the 1/10th 200mm class it was Juan Chalas with the overall TQ from Franco Machado in 2nd. The 25-minute A-main event however brought a totally different result with 5th place qualifier, Juan Aguirre taking the win some seven laps in front of 6th place qualifier, Ivan Garcia while 3rd place qualifier, Alex Fagundo came in 3rd overall, some 40 seconds behind Ivan.

Round 2 of the Danish DASU Electric On-road Championship was hosted by the Brondby Racing Club last weekend. The race was held in Stock Touring, Formula and GT12 classes and in Touring Super Stock it was Awesomatix driver, Frederik Brolos Mikkelsen with the overall TQ and win from the Xray duo of Patrick Danielsen in 2nd and Patrick Folman in 3rd.

The 2020 Mountain Cup was held at the RC Paradise asphalt indoor track in Nagoya, Japan this past weekend. The race attracted some of the country’s fastest drivers and it was Infinity’s Akio Sobue with the overall win in the Touring Car Modified class from Masami Hirosaka (Yokomo) in 2nd. Xray’s Takuma Sasaki came in 3rd to round out the podium.

Round 2 of the 2020 FinTrack Tour was hosted by the Kypak club in Kuusankoski this past weekend, attracting 75 entries from Finland and Russia. In the premier Touring Modified class it was Karri Salmela (Awesomatix) with a near clean sweep in the qualifiers as Pekko Iivonen came in 2nd, winning a single qualifying round. The finals then saw Karri continue to dominate, taking all three A-mains for the overall from Awesomatix pilot Georgy Chmigal in 2nd. Schumacher driver Pekko Iivonen would round out the top 3 as Leevi Martikainen and Teemu Saarinen came in 4th and 5th respectively.

Round 7 of the Xray Racing Series Germany was held in Aschaffenburg over the weekend hosted by the MCRT Aschaffenburg club. The race was held on a new layout and carpet, making for some tricky racing conditions as the grip wasn’t already up. The race was held in several electric on-road classes and in Touring Stock it was Marc Stübben with the win from Jens Haller and Jörg Baldes, all running Xray cars.
