Ryan Maker – 12 months on is he still living the dream of being a car manufacturer?

One year ago the very likeable Australian Touring Car racer Ryan Maker revealed to the world that he was going to take the brave step of turning his very successful aftermarket RC parts company RC Maker into a full fledged car manufacturer.  In doing so he was aiming to realise a childhood dream, but he didn’t just announce these plans with some CAD drawings, he turned up with a self designed first prototype under his arm to race at one of touring car racing’s biggest and toughest stages – the famous TITC in Bangkok, Thailand.  Having done a feature piece on Ryan in the build up to our coverage of last year’s TITC, as part of the lead into our coverage of what is looking like being the greatest edition yet of this unique event, we caught back up with Ryan to discover, if 12-months on, he is still living the dream as the second batch of SP1 kits are currently making their way around the world to new customers.  Spoiler alert, always a pleasure to chat to due his infectious passionate and positivity, he concluded our conversation with the very clear, ‘I am living my dream that’s for sure, it’s pretty damn cool.’

Branson wins EWS Round 4

Kyle Branson registered his first win of the current EWS season taking victory at the fourth & penultimate round of the established British Winter series.  In qualifying it was the Schumacher of reigning Champion Elliott Harper who took the TQ ahead of the Awesomatix of Round 1 & 3 winner Ollie Jefferies with Branson, top qualifier at the previous round, lining up P3.  In the one day event’s single 5-minute A-main, that order got reversed at the 1 and a half minute mark with Branson going to the front where he would stay until the finish.  1.6-seconds back Jefferies would finish second with a 1-second advantage over Harper.  In Pro Stock, Zak Finlay maintained his perfect record for the season with his fourth win in a row while in the FWD Adam Southgate was the winner.

Mibosport – It all started with a Tamiya TT01 for Christmas

Last weekend saw the biggest MIBO International to-date take place in the Czech Republic.  The third edition of this unique race, the construction of two separate carpet tracks brings together both onroad and offroad racers for two & a half days of racing.  Held in the Sport V Hotel in the very small town of Hrotovice, a casual conversation with the man who puts it on, Michal Bok, quickly turned into a bit of trip down memory lane.  Our first event of 2025, this year marks 18-years since we covered our first event, the 2007 EFRA 1:10 Nitro Touring European Championship in Spain, and we have become good friends with Michal over that time.  As we chatted it was interesting to discovered the story of Bok’s successful journey with Mibosport, the distribution and online retailer that has just out grown its fourth premises, and which all started from him getting a Tamiya TT01 for Christmas as a kid.

Senesi partners with Savox

Reigning EFRA 1:8 GT European Champion and 11-time Italian National Champion Natanaele Senesi is to use Savox servos as part of his racing program in 2025 and beyond.  A big year for the 1:8 GT specialist with the IFMAR World Championships for the category taking place in Chile later this year, the Italian, who just recently opened the Senesi Motorsport Arena 1:10 Indoor RC Track, said on the announcement. ‘The choice was easy for me!  After I got in touch with Savox at the end of 2024 and I had the opportunity to test their products during this past winter season, the choice was easy for me.  Savox is one of the biggest servos’ manufacture in the R/C market and their “monster” line is comparable to none.  I really look forward to use their servos and help Andy and the team to develop them even more.  Thank you very much Andy Chen for giving me this amazing opportunity!’

RugRacers Round 4 – Report

The fourth round of British indoor touring car series Rug Racers took place over the weekend where it was Schumacher’s Elliott Harper maintained his perfect score with win number four.  With pressure building into the penultimate round of Hertford Radio Car Club organised series, the door to the Stock and Frontie championships is wide open as to where the Rug Racers 24/25 titles will go.  In Modified Harper was looking to keep his clean sweep for the series going with Alex Thurston & Harley Eldridge keeping him honest all day as he locked up the TQ spot for the 2 leg finals.  Leg 1 started with strong pace from the front 4 cars breaking away before a rare mistake saw Elliott fall down the field and promote Thurston to the point, Elliott set back through the field and managed to make it back to Alex but wasn’t able to pass and Leg 1 went to Thurston ahead with Andy Murray in 3rd.  Leg 2 and no mistake and a storming race time, Harper went lights to flag untroubled, Thurston & Eldridge putting on a great battle for the 2nd spot that Thurston held onto by a few 10ths at the line, the pair joining Harper on the podium in that order.

Catalonia PRO10 Championship Rd 1 – Report

Over the weekend, under typical cold conditions for this time of year, the first round of the Catalonia PRO10 Championship took place in Barcelona. The category is open, and all drivers compete in the modified class.  Qualifying began before 10am without any track additive, in cold and damp conditions however despite this, times began to improve, and as the morning progressed, lap times steadily dropped.  In the first final, just before a promising duel between Alain Biescas and Marc Valero, Biescas had to retire due to a mechanical issue.  Marc Valero took the win, followed by Isaac Amorós in second and Sergio Lacuesta in third, just over 4 seconds behind.  Valero secured another victory in the second final, while Biescas retired once again due to another mechanical problem. This time, Isaac Amorós showed better pace and pulled away from Lacuesta.  In the third and final heat, Valero claimed yet another victory.  Biescas couldn’t start due to unresolved issues, and the final battle between Isaac and Sergio was won by Isaac, with a margin of just over one second.  New drivers and brands are increasingly investing in this category, which continues to gain followers in Catalonia.  The fact that it is free from technical inspections allows for unrestricted driving and development.  As an interesting fact, the fastest PRO10 lap was two seconds quicker than the best Touring Stock lap, set by a top Spanish driver, on a small and highly technical track.  This year, an important event is being prepared at the Almusafes (Valencia) track, where we expect to gather drivers from all over the national scene, as well as from neighbouring French drivers and future afield.

Red RC TITC 2025 coverage presented by Hobbywing

Red RC is excited to announce that we are once again teaming up with electronic manufacturer Hobbywing to bring you coverage of legendary TITC electric touring car race in Thailand.  The 21st edition of the race, it has become one of the most significant Modified Touring Car races in world after the IFMAR ISTC World Championship and always sees manufacturers & drivers bring their A-game as they look to add a TITC title.  2025 looks like being one of the most exciting yet with a number of big story lines.  Sharing the honours of being the race’s most successful champion along with Atsushi Hara, the two World Champions having won it four times each, defending Champion Bruno Coelho will make his Infinity debut at the Infinity RC Addict track with an all new car from the Japanese manufacturer.  Ronald Volker, who came so close to retaking the title last year a decade after his one TITC win back in 2014, returns armed with the very fast new pre-production MTC3 from Mugen Seiki.  Debuting the car with a very competitive outing at the World Championships in November, the German is back in the form of his life and travels to Thailand fresh from a dominant performance over Michal Orlowski at MIBO International in the Czech Republic last weekend.  Orlowski is the other big story of this year’s race as the Polish ace makes his TITC debut.  As one of the best in the business, it will be interesting to watch how the Schumacher driver deals with the race’s unique ever changing track conditions.  Hobbywing has a 16-year relationship with the Thailand International Touring Car Championship, to give it its full title, and goes into the 2025 events as both the defending Modified and Open Brushless Champions.  Our coverage of the four day event will start on February 20th.
