Xray Racing Series Germany Rd6 – Report

The sixth and final round of the Xray Racing Series Germany was held at the Eifel-Ring at Leimbach, located close to the famous Nurburgring. It was already the fourth XRS appearance in two seasons on the original ETS carpet of this 111-meter track with its challenging mixture of a technical and a fast section. The hosting MAC Adenau club did a great job again and received 53 entries but some had to cancel mainly because of a cold. Lot of racers including five young talents joined the competition which started with ten hours of intense practice on Saturday. In the Touring Car Stock class, a 13.5T Xray motor was mandatory as well as hand-out tyres from Hudy or Volante. Racing was fully under control of Majuran Tharmalingam. The local hero took the TQ as well as all three wins in the A-mains to catch the overall victory. Joerg Baldes, who was 2nd in qualifying just one second behind Tharmalingam, snatched the runner-up spot, four hundredth of a second in front of Melvin Diekmann. Only the top three drivers completed 28 laps during the heats. In the mains Baldes and Diekmann showed thrilling bumper-to-bumper racing with Baldes taking 2nd twice closely followed by Diekmann while he had to retire from the second main due to a malfunctioning ESC. Behind young Marc Stuebben, Tobias Hoeffin finished 5th which was enough to become XRS Touring Stock champion for the second time.

Morganti doubles at Florida Nitro Series Rd3

Round 3 of the Florida Nitro Series was hosted by Homestead RC Raceway. The 1/10th 200mm Sedan class was the one with more participants, since the drivers are using any chance they have to practice and setup their cars for the upcoming Worlds in October. Capricorn’s DJ Apolaro took the TQ from Paolo Morganti 2nd and Lazaro Alonso 3rd, making it an all-Capricorn top 3. The final was super close and exciting. At the beginning it looked like DJ had the advantage with a pit stop less and with a couple of mistakes from Paolo. But then disaster struck. The second gear on DJ’s failed and he had to race the last part of the race only in first gear. The race was super exciting to watch and was decided actually in the last minute. But was not a walk in the park for Paolo, since he was running out of tyres and had a massive understeer, making the car super slow on the right turns. When all was set and done Paolo was able to cross the finish line in first, just 0.2 tenth of a second front of DJ. Eduardo Cabal (Serpent) came in 3rd, a lap down on DJ as Lazaro finished in 4th from Rafael Angulo 5th.

Léo Arnold wins French 200mm opener

The opening round of the French 1/10th 200mm Nitro Touring Championship was held at the Monaco-based La Turbie track. The track is well know for its long left sweeper going onto the straight and the 180 degrees view of the sea and a part of Monaco. The weather conditions were mixed, with a partially dry track on the Friday afternoon that offered both parts that were dry while the long left corner being humid. Saturday morning heavy rain didn’t allow drivers to practice and the organisers decided to jump directly into the first qualifiers in the afternoon. As this was the first dry run many were left unsure what setups to use and it was Leo Arnold who made the best out of the conditions, scoring the best time after the three 4-minutes qualifiers from Frédéric La Spesa and Kévin Rasquin with the first two drivers being directly qualified in the main final. Right in time for the main final rain started to fall and it was decided to cut the final short to 20 minutes. In the main, Léo laid down an impressive performance and by being around one second faster per lap he was able to bring home the win despite the final minutes being pretty chaotic due to heavy rain. Behind the Xray driver, Aurélien Gouriau (Mugen) and Jean-Baptiste Geneau (Capricorn) would make up the top 3 results.
