Andy Tan wins Urban F1 League opener

Round 1 of the 2018 Urban F1 League saw a smaller than usual turnout, but the on-track action was just as intense, if not more so than in the previous rounds. When the dust had settled, it was several new faces that grabbed the headlines. Taking pole position after the 10-minute qualifier was newcomer, Tapana V, who laid down his best three laps in the last minute of action to dislodge Charles Lim into P2, with Andy Tan in P3. In A1, Tapana could not hold on for the win, as Andy Tan ran a mistake-free race to take the win. Tapana bounced back with a tone-to-tone victory in A2 to set up a showdown in the final leg. At the start of A3, Tapana suffered a setback as a multiple-car collision at turn 1 dropped him to the back of the pack. Andy Tan came through unscathed and managed to hang on for the win from a hard-charging Patrick Ong.

Ishioka & Knapp sweep 2018 Snowbird

However, CRC teammates Andrew Knapp and Jeff Dayger were hot on his heels but after the 5-minute single A-main it was still Hayato who would hold the upper hand with Andrew ending the race only 0.3 seconds short of the Japanese ace. In third and only a tenth of a second short of Andrew, Michael Hanulec would end the race on the 3 spot. Over in 1/12th 17.5T it was Andrew Knapp who TQ’d all four qualifiers and went on to win the main. Robbie Dodge would come in 2nd, 0.8 seconds down on Andrew while Joe Trandell snatched the final podium spot.
