Mark Wallin wins at AARCMCC EP On-road State Titles

The 2017 AARCMCC EP On-Road State Titles were held at the Sydney Model Autosports track in the west of Sydney. The SMA track is a flowing technical track with a challenging layout to really test drivers abilities. The lead up to the meeting was dogged with bad weather which ultimately caused the meeting to be abandoned after the completion of qualifying. Saturday kicked off with a seeding run, each class was given a 5-minute session on the track, a drivers quickest three consecutive laps would then be counted for a total time that would seed the first three rounds of qualifying. In 1/12th Modified Mark Wallin went all in, using a set of brand new, un-cut and un-treated tyres and his decision proved to be a good one as he set a seed time of 52.068 seconds placing him at the top of the order for round one. The first round of 1/12th qualifying confirmed that Mark was going to have to work hard. After missing the seeding round, Ed Clark came out strong posting several quickest laps to take 2nd behind Mark in the round.

Italian Manufacturers Championship Rd2 – Report

Last weekend the second and final round of the Italian Manufacturers Championship took place at the World famous venue of Gubbio in central Italy. With the majestic track making for a perfect scenery for the season finale and a highly competitive field in both the 1/10th 200mm and the 1/8th class, the championship proved to be once again one of the best events in the Italian on-road scene. The 1/8th A-main would see an outstanding battle for the lead between Raiola’s Infinity and Mazzeo’s Xray until the RX8 of the 200mm vice-World champion was forced to retire due to a loose servo horn screw. From that moment on Carmine Raiola has been able to cruise to a deserved win ahead of his Infinity team-mates Balestri and Tironi. In the championship, Infinity claimed the chassis title with two wins (Balestri in Fiorano and Raiola in Gubbio), with Max Power and Runner Time winning the respective titles while Matrix won the Tires title at the second tie-breaker with Hotrace.

Dutch Electric On-road Nationals Rd3 – Report

The fast track of Rucphen in the south of the Netherlands played host to the third round of the Dutch Electric 1/10 nationals. A total of three categories were run with Formula, Touring Modified and Touring Stock. The touring classes were limited to one set of Volante tyres with the modified drivers being a bit concerned about tyre wear, because of the high strains that are being put on the tyres due to the high speed and high temperature. The race format was three qualifiers with the best two to count. In the Touring Modified class local driver Mitchell Van Es was the pre-event favourite as since switching to an Awesomatix he had proved to be extremely fast and consistent. And so he took pole with a 21-lapper and a fastest single lap time close to Olivier Buyltinck’s newly set track record. Athan De Witte put his car on a fine P2. He also improved his personal best to a 14.3, so he was quite happy with his achievement. Behind the two Sidney Blokker took 3rd spot in front of Rick Van den Akker and Govert Verbeke.

Bruno Coelho has capped off his Euro Touring Series title weekend in Slovakia with a record equaling fourth win of the season.  The Xray driver joined Marc Rheinard as the only driver to win four races in a single season when he again cruised to A2 victory at the Hudy Arena to wrap up Round 5, the organisers to be complimented for completing the event after effectively losing two days of running due to rain.  Able to sit out A3, Coelho’s win means he maintains his unbeaten run of victories at his team’s home track since making his ETS debut three seasons ago. Behind, team-mate Alexander Hagberg continued the 1-2 enjoyed by Xray as he won A3 after seeing off a rejuvenated Naoto Matsukura, the former World Champion claiming his first ever ETS podium finish.
