The EFRA 40+ On-roaad European Championships were recently held in Hamm, Germany. In the 1/8th scale class it was last year’s winner Luca Martinelli (ARC) who saw the checkered flag in first position after delivering a flawless performance. The battle for the remaining podium spots was wide open between Shepherd colleagues Arie Manten, Andreas Giesa and Frank Schewiola. A few minutes before the end Andreas had a crash at the end of the straight caused by a piece of chunked tyre that saw him dropping him down the order. In the closing stages Frank tried to hunt down Arie but he ran out of time. Arie took the runner-up spot with Frank completing the podium. Austrian Electric On-road Nationals Rd6 – Report

Austrian Electric On-road Nationals Rd6 – Report

Round six of the Austrian Electric On-road Nationals was held at the RCR-Linz club in perfect weather conditions. Pretty uneven grip conditions on the track made things a bit difficult in terms of car setup but this did not keep the drivers from scoring fast laps and in Touring Modified the top 10 drivers all finished within two seconds in qualifying. Pre-event favourite, Patrick Gollner, had some bad luck with his tyres and only finished in P6 but with a new set of rubber he was able to take the overall second place in the finals behind Dominic Vogl which in turn also meant the Austrian National title for Patrick. The podium at round six was completed by Manuel Gremlica.

Alexander Hagberg doubles in South Africa

Alexander Hagberg doubles in South Afrika

The fourth round of the 2016 South-African ORE National Championship was hosted by the Welkom RC Club, home of the 2018 IFMAR ISTC 1/12 world championships. The track had great traction with a technical but fast layout for the event. As a result of the 2018 IFMAR Worlds being hosted in South Africa, some of the young talented drivers came out of “retirement” to start their qualifying quest for the worlds. The Touring Modified class is steadily growing, and the drivers needed to be at their best to qualify for the A-mains. Alexander Hagberg participated as invitational pro driver, and his presence motivated the local drivers to push hard and go faster. Alexander showed his world class talent and pace, and dominated the event from practise through qualifying, and also the A-finals. The battle for the podium was intense, with great runs from Anderton Smith, Antonio Caroli, Ashley Hurley and Shaun Schutte. Youngster Ashley Hurley showed great pace and consolidated the second place with Shaun Schutte taking the third podium spot. On Sunday Alex grabbed the overall win early courtesy of wins in A1 and A2, and then took some more risks in A3 and set a new lap record of 12.8s. With only one round remaining in the South African championship, Jason Hillcoat is on the brink of winning the SA Championship Title for 2016, after winning round 1 and 3.

Xray Turkish On-road Championships Rd6 – Report

Xray Turkish On-road Championships Rd6 – Report

The sixth and final round of the Xray Turkish On-road Championships were held at the Bursa Bumod track. This was actually the fifth round this year as round five was cancelled due to sanctions all of the country at that time. The 1/10th 200mm Nitro A-main saw Mustafa Alp loosing the lead in the opening stages as he took off a little bit late which allowed P2 starter, Halit Körpe to jumbo into the lead. Mustafa though was able to soon pass Halit for the lead and he started to pull away right away. At about 6 minutes into the race Alp already started to lap the field and from that moment on the went into cruise mode. About 50 laps into the race, Halit ran into issues and he had to retire, promoting Alain into second place. A planned stop for tyres didn’t change anything up front and so Mustafa took an easy win some six laps ahead of Alan with Onur rounding out the top 3 result. Overall in the championship Mustafa brought home the tittle from Halit Körpe on the runner-up spot and Alain Sarafyan who completed the championship podium.
