Greiner tops first timed practice at ENS

Having secured his first Euro Nitro Series win in wet conditions at Round 2 in Austria last month, Serpent’s Dominic Greiner has picked up where he left off by topping the first controlled practice for Round 3 at a very hot & dry Hockenheimring in Germany.  Over three consecutive laps, the German, who jointly leads the standings, was the only driver to run a 59-second time with series debutant Ronald Volker and his prototype Mugen the closest challenger almost 3/10th adrift. Capricorn’s Eric Dankel, winner of the season opener, completed the Top 3 followed by HB’s Teemu Leino.

DJ Apolaro wins at ROAR Region 4 championship

DJ Apolaro wins at ROAR Region 4 championship

The ROAR Region 4 championship was run last weekend at the Valkaria Track in Palm Bay Florida. In the Modified Touring car class Capricorn’s DJ Apolaro had one of his few electric outings as otherwise being pretty much a nitro racers. Despite struggling with steering and rear traction he was able to TQ the first round of qualifiers. Round 2 and the raising temperature led to no time improvements but come the 3rd round Scotty Gray was able to score the only 23 laps run putting him in front while DJ sat in 2nd place. Overnight rain washed away the grip and the final qualifiers on Sunday morning allowed for no improvements. DJ took the win but with a slower time compared to the previous rounds meaning Scotty Gray (Xray) would take the TQ from DJ Apolaro (Capricorn) and Mark Burt (Awesomatix) in 3rd.

Raiola & Campourcy win at Trophee Novarossi

The first Novarossi Trophy of the year took place at the Roubie Race Track in Monaco. Especially the 1/8th on-road class was not short of famous European drivers such as reigning Italian champion, Carmine Raiola, reigning Swiss champion, Simon Kurzbuch, Francesco Tironi or Toni Gruber to name just a view. The race format saw 4 qualifying heats and two 20 minutes finals of which the best result counted towards the overall result. At the end it was Carmine Raiola (Xray/Novarossi) who took the overall win with the only 84 laps run while Simon Kurzbuch (Shepherd/Novarossi) had to settle for second despite winning the 2nd A-main but as he was 2 laps short on Carmine’s run in leg 1 he had to settle for the runner-up spot. The podium was completed by Simon’s fellow countryman Silvio Hächler (KM/Novarossi). Francesco Tironi (Shepherd/Novarossi) came in 4th while Toni Gruber (Serpent/Novarossi) completed the top 5 result. In the 1/10th 200mm class it was Stephane Campourcy (Xray/RB) who took the win from Eric Gnemis (Kyosho/O.S.) and Daniel Grosso.

Korgae Scales takes WCICS WGT championship

Korgae Scales takes WCICS WGT championship

At the final round of the Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series (WCICS), which hosted over 1500 registrations across 8 events this season, newly crowned WGT champion Korgae Scales wasn’t racing. Instead he was at home welcoming his new son into the world. But he had so dominated the class that he had the Championship locked up before the 8th and final round. CRC sponsored Korgae won the WGT season Championship for the 3rd year in a row, becoming the first and only 3-peat champion in the modern WCICS era, moving ahead of the only other repeat champions Steve Soon and Josh Carter. Second in the WGT championship was Team Associated’s Peter Toszer, followed by privateer, WCICS President, Josh Carter. Planning is already underway for next season, which will begin in late September in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
