Roche announce addition of 1:12 Champion Hori

Following the signing of 1:12 Japanese National Champion Kazuki Yamashita to it’s factory team in May, Roche has announced the addition of another Japanese National Champion Masahiro Hori.  Making the announcement the World Championship winning 1:12 manufacturer said, ‘We would like to announce that the former 1/12th Japanese National Champion, 2022 A main finalist Masahiro Hori as our factory team driver. Hori san will bring extensive experience and knowledge on 1/12th pan car to utilized in team activities of racing and development. We are proud and glad to welcome Japanese legend Masahiro Hori in our team. Thanks for Japanese distributor Kimihiko Yano to make it happened.’

Hong Nor’s Grenenger takes QLD 1:8 GT State Title

Having only signed for Hong Nor at the end of May, Russell Grenenger got the partnership off to the best possible start by taking a debut 1:8 GT Nitro victory at the Queensland State Title championships at England Park Raceway.   The former large scale World Champion, secured the overall TQ after topping 3 of the six rounds of qualifying with the similar car of Cameron Nurcombe 2nd, Serpent’s Jeff Hamon 3rd and Jason Vallely’s Hong Nor P4, each driver having posted 1 TQ run.  In the 30-minute final, Grenenger, having dropped off the lead for a time, would get his Ielasi Tuned powered X3-GTS 2023 back to the front to eventually win by 8-seconds from Lachlan Pearson and Vallely.  Unfortunately having just won the 1:8 Onroad title one race earlier, Hamon would DNF 2/3rd the way through the GT encounter.  A big year for the 1:8 GT category,  Grenenger’s State Title win will be a nice boost ahead of the 1:8 GT World Championships.  Only the second running of IFMAR title for the class, New South Wales Radio Control Racing Car Club will host the Worlds from October 8-15th at the ‘The John Grant International Raceway’ in Sydney.

Hagberg wins Portuguese Nationals Rd3

As a nice warm-up to the Swedish Nationals next weekend, Alexander Hagberg took victory at the 3rd round of the Portuguese National Championships in Coimbra over the weekend.  The Swede, who resides in Portugal, topped all four qualifiers to secure the TQ ahead Antonino Mangiaracina and José Pereira.  In the finals, the factory Xray driver secured the win in Sunday’s hot conditions, in contrast to Saturday wet track, ahead of the similar X4 of Pereira with Silva Samuel completing the podium driving a Mugen.  In 13.5T, Hugo Miguel took his Mugen to both the TQ and win. Rúben Francisco driving an Awesomatix finished second with Miguel Costa’s Xray completing the Top 3.

HobbyWing Challenge Malaysia 2023 – Announcement

Having just recently hosted the Malaysia FEMCA Series, SACC RC Park has announced the HobbyWing Challenge Malaysia 2023.  Situated in Shah Alam city in the state capital of Selangor, the roof top track will play host to the RC Planet Malayia organised electric touring car event on August 13th.  Also the host venue for the Xray’s XRS Malaysia event that as attended by Alexander Hagberg,  racing at the HobbyWing Challenge Malaysia will see drivers compete for honours in 13.5T Stock Blinky, 13.5T Stock with HobbyWing Handout Motor & ESC, 17.5T GT  with HobbyWing Handout Motor & ESC and 17.5T FWD Blinky.  The race schedule will see three rounds of rocket round qualifying with triple A-Main to decide the overall winners

Hamon wins QLD 1:8 Onroad title

Jeff Hamon added another State Championships title for 2023, this time the Serpent driver claiming 1:8 Onroad Queensland title at England Park Raceway.   Having won the NSW State Titles in electric Touring Car back in May, Hamon would pull off the perfect weekend in his specialist class of 1:8 nitro topping four of the 6 rounds of qualifying to secure the overall TQ.  Behind Tim Moylan secured P2 with two TQ runs with P3 on the grid going to Hamish Scott.  Over the half hour final the World Championship Finalist would control the race to eventually win by a lap from the Infinity of  Russell Grenenger with the Serpent of Rick Bartolozzi completing the podium.  An event support by Speedy RC, in the 1:10 title race it was the Infinity of Brayden Stanley who took victory.

Volker adds another German National title

A nation that has been a major force in the world of international 1:10 electric touring car racing, Germany hosted its National Championships over the weekend with Ronald Volker adding another DMC title to his CV.  Hosted by the MC Munster at the club’s Hollmoorring track in the western part of the country, qualifying would see Volker take his Mugen to the overall TQ.  A dominant performance, the former World Champion’s  LRP powered MTC2R was fastest in 4 of the 5 qualifiers.  The only other driver to top a round, Q4, Yokomo’s Christopher Krapp would would secure P2 on the grid followed by team-mate Yannic Prümper.  Winner of the title at his home track of Andernach, last year Awesomatix’s Marc Rheinard would start P4 with the Xray of Jan Ratheisky completing the top half of the grid.  In the triple finals, A1 would see Volker crash out early and DNF with Krapp taking the win from Rheinard.  A2 would see a perfect run from the pole sitter to give him the win just ahead of Krapp meaning it was a head to head battle in A3.  Battling for the lead, on the penultimate lap Krapp would roll allowing Volker to win from Rheinard and lift the DMC title.  Finishing A3 in 5th, Krapp would finish runner-up with Rheinard completing the podium.  In the Stock class Top Qualifier Simon Lauter took the title while in Formula it was Ratheisky who took the win.

Volker confirmed for Electric Singapore Int. Challenge

Having only announced the inaugural running of the event last week, the Electric Singapore International Challenge is quickly gaining international interest with former World Champion Ronald Volker the latest driver to be confirmed for the September 9-10th race.  Organised by the RCMC Singapore Club together with top international racer Nicholas Lee and Chhua Joo kiah, the aim of ESIC is to bring back racing in style in Singapore with the creation of one big exciting weekend for the on-road racers.  With over 100 entries already received, the ESIC is already well on its way to achieving this.  With famed race announcer and organiser Scotty Ernst as Race Director,  other international entries include Infinity’s trio of Electric Touring Car World Champions – Naoto Matsukura, Jilles Groskamp and Andy Moore.

BRCA 2WD Onroad Nationals R3 Mendip – Report

The third round of this year’s BRCA 2WD Onroad National Championship took place at Mendip over the weekend with Xray’s Luke Lee and Schumacher’s Andy Murray taking the wins.   In Formula, qualifying would be a Luke Lee show, the winner of the opening two rounds of the championship taking all three rounds of qualifying from his brother  Michael’s Schumacher. Behind them it was Michael Friebel’s new WRC edging out James Greener’s Xray for third by virue of the tie-break.  The finals saw Lee taking all three legs for the overall win from his brother Michael with Friebel in third and Greener fourth.
