12th Scale International Grand Prix – Announcement

ACI Sport, the Italian motorsport and R/C Car Racing Federation, in cooperation with RC Landia, the indoor track located in Scandiano Italy, is pleased to announce the ’12th scale International Grand Prix’ which is scheduled to take place on 3-5 November 2023.  The race will cater three classes: 1:12 Open, 1:12 Spec and GT12 (traditional BRCA rules) and will be run on new CRC carpet delivered to the track for the upcoming indoor season.  The Grand Prix will be hosted over 3-days with drivers getting ample track time over a schedule that will consist of 4 rounds of Free Practice, 1 Round of Seeding Practice, 6 rounds of Qualifying and 3 Finals.  The race is limited to 80 places on a first come, first served basis with the full race information pack available here.

Losam wins Hong Kong GP Onroad Championship

Serpent driver Lo Losam took the 1:8 win at the Hong Kong GP Onroad Championship which took place at the country’s well known Tom Racing Circuit.  Hosted by the Hong Kong Model Car Association, the event would be effected by rain on the Saturday with the original schedule of 5 rounds of qualifying reduced to 3 with two to count.  Losam’s first race with the Serpent 990, with factory driver Jeff Hamon providing him with set-up advice over the phone, the 20-year-old would go fastest in the first two rounds to lock in the overall TQ while the Mugen of Chu Williams would take the Super Pole shoot out to secure P2 on the grid.  With the race attracting an entry from none other than legendary race announcer & recent 1:8 Onroad racing convert Scotty Ernst, in the 1-hour Main final Losam would have some issues at the start leaving him in P7.  Within 3-minutes however he was back in the front where he would stay until the end winning by 4-laps from Williams with the Capricorn of 亞森 completing the podium.

Greiner defends German National title

Capricorn’s Dominic Greiner successfully defended his 1:8 Onroad German National title over the weekend taking victory over Lars Hoppe and Merlin Depta.  Hosted at the track of MSC Kichlain in the centre of the country and with more than 50 drivers in attendance, it would be the Shepherd of Hoppe who would take the overall TQ from Greiner and the Capricorn of recent European Championship Top Qualifier Toni Gruber.  The 45-minute final would see multiple European Champion Greiner take the win by one lap from Hoppe with Depta, winner of the Semi A Final, taking his Capricorn from P5 on the grid to 3rd after Gruber hit problems during the race.

Fangzhou “Rocket” Zhang wins China Nationals

Fangzhou Zhang, better known as Rocket Zhang, is the new 1:10 Electric Touring Car Chinese National Champion.  After a 3-year absence, the CMAC was finally able to host the China Nationals once again with the FSR International Race Track the location where both the 5 onroad and 5 offroad titles on offer would decided making for a busy 4 day race schedule.  Driving his Awesomatix, Rocket would secure the title ahead of the Xray pairing of Ma Hao Ran and Dai Shu Xia.  In 1:10 Formula it was another of China’s international racers Stick King who took the title with the Serpent driver taking the victory over Zou Shi Jie and Zhang Yun Kai while in 1:12 Xray’s Dai Shu Xia took top prize.  In the nitro onroad classes Alfred Lao won the 1:10 title with Xray’s Ma Hao Ran crowned the 1:8 GT National Champion.

Quek wins HobbyWing Challenge Malaysia

Xray/Hobbywing team driver Dominic Quek enjoyed victory at the HobbyWing Challenge Malaysia at SACC RC Park – the roof top track situated in Shah Alam city in the state capital of Selangor.  Attracting over 100 entries from Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines, with no Mod Touring Car class the Singapore driver would contest FWD and secure the TQ with the fastest time from the three rounds of qualifying.  Behind Malaysian driver’s Shukri would secure P2 with Esmail Apandi from Singapore third.  In the double leg A-Main, Quek would lead from start to finish from the 3 Racing of Shukri with Shaikh Mohd Shahrin coming through from 7th on the grid to complete the podium on a tie-breaker with Apandi.  In Pro Stock, the biggest class of the event with 38 entries, Adik Haikal took the win for 3 Racing.  13.5 Stock was won by the Yokomo of Top Qualifier Azhari Azhar while the 17.5 GT victory also went to the Top Qualifier Hafiz Shahrin.

Nicholson defends QLD State Title

Team Yokomo’s Simon Nicholson successfully defended his 1:10 Touring Car Queensland State title over the weekend which was hosted by the Bundaberg Onroad RC Club.  Winning the title in Brisbane last year ahead of Antoni Caretti, Nicholson got his 2023 RCRA SpeedyRC EP Onroad QLD State Championship off the the best possible start as he took a clean sweep of the four qualifying rounds to secure the overall TQ.  Starting ahead of fellow Yokomo driver Steven Cornell with Jason Dorn lining up P3, Nicholson would continue to dominate with triple wins in the final to secure the title with Cornell and Dorn maintaining their starting positions to joining him on the Bundaberg podium.  In 13.5 Stock, Lachlan Pearson took his Team Destiny chassis to the title having also started from the TQ.

Gruber takes ENS Round 2 victory

Capricorn’s Toni Gruber took the 1:8 victory at the second round of the ENS in the Netherlands today, the German leading home Dutch driver Jilles Groskamp at the Apeldoorn circuit.  As he did at the circuit last year, Gruber would start the 45-minute final as the Top Qualifier.  His third consecutive ENS TQ start, this time round the reigning 1:10 European Champion would convert the pole position into victory, setting the fastest lap of the race with his Ielasi Tuned powered LAB C804 to build up a winning margin of almost 2-laps over the Infinity of Groskamp.  Winner of the Dutch ENS encounter last year, Dominic Greiner would lead for a number of laps following a tyre stop from Gruber but the former European Champion would be forced to retire as the race reached half way.  With the third place qualifier out, Mugen’s Steven Cuypers, winner of the recent Dutch National Championship third round at the track, would complete the podium line-up after a strong race from 8th on the grid.  Making it a Capricorn double Melvin Diekmann took the 1:10 win, his second of the season, with Tim Benson runner-up and Top Qualifier Milan Holthuis third.

Gruber Top Qualifier at Dutch ENS

Toni Gruber is the Top Qualifier at the second round of the ENS in the Netherlands.  After a dominant performance on Friday when the Capricorn/Ielasi Tuned driver topped all three qualifiers, unfortunately Saturday morning rain forced the cancellation of the remaining two qualifiers at the Apeldoorn track.  Top Qualifier at the season opening in Ettlingen, Germany, and at the recent European Championships in Portugal, Gruber will start Sunday’s scheduled 45-minute final on pole from Infinity’s Jilles Groskamp.  The Dutch driver was the closest challenger to his German rival setting the second fastest time in each of the three rounds of heats.  Capricorn’s Dominic Greiner, winner of the season opener in May, completes the Top 3 ahead of Shepherd’s Lars Hoppe counting a P3 and P4 run as his best two rounds.  In 1:10, Infinity driver Milan Holthuis secured the TQ ahead of Round 1 Top Qualifier & winner Melvin Diekmann with Tim Benson set to line up 3rd on the grid.
