Erwin Luhur wins Singapore National Champs

The eight and final round of the 2012 National Series saw Xray driver Erwin Luhur take the TQ and race after a long 45 minutes final that he ended on bald tires. Second place went to Harry Woo who finished a lap down, also with virtually no rubber left on the rims of his NT1. The podium was concluded by another Xray driver in the form of Sam Craig who ran a tire stop strategy and was very fast in the closing stages of the race. The win handed Erwin Luhur the overall championship with Nelson Lee in second place and Erwin’s Xray team mate Barry Ng.

Leino is Thailand Worlds Top Qualifier

Having been the provisional TQ holder since topping the second round of qualifying three days ago, Team HB’s Teemu Leino made the best use of near perfect ‘rocket round’ conditions in the final qualifier in Thailand to produce a blistering 40-lap run securing himself & HB’s brand new R10 chassis the honour of being Top Qualifier for the fifth bi-annual Nitro Touring World Championships. Set to line up on pole position for Saturday’s World title deciding final at the beautiful RC Addict track, the Finnish star will be joined in the 60-minute encounter by Jilles Groskamp who was the only other driver to deliver a 40 lap run, his own HB team-mate Atsushi Hara and Thai ace Meen Vejrak with the other 6 drivers going to have to earn their way onto the grid via the Semi Finals.

Keven Hébert wins at Timezone Grand Prix

Mark Day’s Timezone II Raceway once again hosted North America’s best on-road drivers for some high-grip carpet action at the Timezone Grand Prix. The three-day event featured practice on Friday, three rounds of qualifying Saturday, and triple A Mains on Sunday. In Modified 1/12 scale, Keven Hébert has been on a tear as of late and this race was no exception. Keven piloted his Team Associated 12R5.2 to a convincing TQ against a very solid field of 1/12 racers. In equally convincing fashion, Hebert drove away from the field in the first two legs of the A Main to take the title and the beautiful Timezone timepiece that comes with it. Teammate Mike Haynes found some good pace in the mains and joined Keven on the podium with a second-place finish.

No change at the top in hot Q5

With an almost clear blue sky, conditions for the fifth & penultimate round of qualifying at the Nitro Touring Car World Championship were too hot to see any of the Top 15 drivers improve on their overnight times, the highest placed improvement coming from 2010 Worlds Runner up Takehiro Terauchi who bettered his previous best to move up from 33rd to 16th putting him in a Semi final qualifying position.  In terms of times for the morning run it was Capricorn’s Jilles Groskamp who set the pace ahead of HB’s Atsushi Hara and KM Racing’s Dario Balestri.

Groskamp fastest in Q1

Continuing the blistering form he showed in practice, Capricorn’s Jilles Groskamp got qualifying for the 1:10 Nitro Touring Car World Championships underway with a convincing TQ run in what were extremely hot conditions in Bangkok, Thailand.  The Dutch ace ran 39-laps in a time of 10:08.998 to top arch rival Atsushi Hara by 3/10ths of a second who in turn was 2 seconds clear of HB team-mate Teemu Leino.  The biggest surprise of the opening qualifier was the impressive run from 14-year-old Mugen driver JJ Wang who posted the fourth fastest time a second off Leino’s pace.
