Toni Rheinard wins 2nd North Cyprus Champions League Challenge

NorthCyprusChampionsLeagueChallenge

Last weekend the 2nd North Cyprus Champions League Challenge took place in the beautiful university facility near Lefkosa. Nearly 40 driver attended at the race and enjoyed the event which was perfectly hosted by Umut Turkay and the whole Team NCRC Group. All drivers participated in the Modified division and the race went smooth with lots of fun. The track was big and really technical. The carpet they used was the same as the well known ETS carpet which was also one of the reasons the competition was really good as traction was quite high. Thanks to everyone who made this race possible and I am already looking forward for my next visit in North Cyprus.

Roenicke & Bastians lead 1/8 Western German championship

Hamm-SM3-VG8-Class1

Jean-Pierre Roenicke is the new leader in class 1 of the Western German Championship 1/8 nitro on-road following his victory at round three. The race on the new track at Hamm was affected by rain on Saturday and Sunday. Beside Roenicke who switched from Serpent to Mugen only a few weeks ago it was only Serpent racer Ralf Vahrenkamp who started into the wet finale but was one lap down after 30 minutes. Fortunately the qualifying with four heats was run under dry conditions. Michel Salven caught pole position ahead of his Serpent fellows René Puepke and Karl-Heinz Meister with Mugen driver Uwe Baldes on fourth spot but these four racers refused to join the finale under wet conditions to leave Roenicke and Vahrenkamp for a “pas de deux”. In the ranking youngster Roenicke is now leading with 351 points ahead of Uwe Baldes (347). René Puepke is on third (345) followed by Karl-Heinz Meister (341) and Rainer Rosskothen (Mugen/330). So far 17 racers have collected points in class 1.

ROAR region 2 electric on-road paved regionals

ROAR-Region2-175-Amain

This past weekend’s electric on-road paved regional in region 2 brought racers to Jackson R/C, site of the upcoming electric paved on-road nationals at the end of July. Mother Nature cooperated nicely with a warm, breezy day and the event finished under the lights when the track is fastest. In 17.5 TC, it was Jerry Perez who took TQ honours. The past IIC amateur champion nipped a field of hot shoes for the top qualifying spot and put it to good use avoiding the A-main’s first turn melee. Unfortunately, his cushion was erased by a mechanical failure causing his car to spin in front of Jeff Cuffs. The two collided and Cuffs showed great courtesy by waiting for Perez to get going again. Perez got away just as the main pack swarmed over Cuffs causing a massive accident which kept producing more accidents as the field steadily clocked in their first timed lap. At the beginning of lap two there was another massive, field consuming accident that ironically spit Cuffs back out into the second running position with Perez still limping around in first. Perez eventually had to retire and Cuffs never looked back, taking the win with a 6 second margin of safety. Scooby Horton finished second, the only other driver on the lead lap. Mike Herald Sr. survived a slew of door banging incidents back in the pack to claim a well deserved third.

TRCCA Taiwan on-road nationals Rd2

trcca-1_8GP

Last weekend the second round of the Taiwan on-road national championship series took place in Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan. The race was held at the large and technical Er-Chong Public RC Race Track with its 90 metre long straight and great combination of curves and hair pin corners that make it very high speed and challenging. The weather was sunny and perfect for the race but the high ambient temperate together with the difficult track made it extremely tough on both man and machine. The event attracted a total of around 90 hobby enthusiasts to participate in the three different race categories  1/8 GP, 1/10 GP and 1/10 EP. In 1/8 GP it was local phenomenon Wang Sang-Chun who took the TQ honour and went on to win the 30 minutes final at his home track. His only challenge came from second placed driver Jones Chu, but only for the first 16 minutes before Jones stripped the front belt of his RX8. Afterwards Wong cruised to the victory followed by Chi Hwa-Sheng 1 lap down in 2nd and Chang Jia-Ming another 6 laps down in 3rd position.

Walker and Hough win BRCA Clubman’s Rd2

club-13_5-stock-podium

The popular and compact Eastbourne track was the venue for round two of the 2011 BRCA Clubman’s series, a venue ideally suited to the 13.5 and 17.5 stock racing the series is aimed at. In the 13.5 class TQ was keenly contested and as the final round approached it could have gone either of three ways, in the end it was rising star Ross Walker that took TQ ahead of Liam Brooks and Mathew Chandler. The first A final saw Liam pressure Ross for the entire race but the Associated Academy driver held on to take leg one from Liam. In the second leg Ross knew second place would be enough for the win and when Liam passed him early on Ross drove sensibly to ensure he got second in the leg and the overall win. Liam Brookes was rewarded with second after a brilliant drive from the recent Xray convert. Richard Clarke for Top Photon was third on the podium after a spirited drive from 8th on the grid. In the 17.5 class it was another Associated taking the glory, this time in the hands David Hough, from pole position in the A final David took both legs and wining the meeting ahead of Bryan Norje and Will Vertigan. The BRCA Clubman’s series remains in the south for round three as drivers move down the South coast to the Adur club in four weeks time.
