The opening round of the Swiss On Road V8 and V10 Nationals took place in Aigle last weekend with 28 drivers in the V10-200mm class, 34 in the Amateur V8 class and 22 in the Expert V8 class competing in the excellent sunny weather. It was the fist time that both classes ran at the same place at the same time, but it was a well organised race and a good job by the team in Aigle during the whole weekend.

Multiple Polish Stock class National Champion Blazej Orlowski has signed for Hot Bodies for the 2011 season. The former Tamiya Poland driver will run the latest TCX touring car in both the national series and in Euro Touring Series races. Blazej want to give special thanks to Niko Triandafilidis for the great support over the past few years.

The organisers of the IRCC event that takes place in Japan from the 24th to the 26th of June have been in contact to tell us about the event. The race is unique in that it will be held in Nagoya International airport, in a meeting room near the arrivals section. With the airport having a hotel and restaurants, you wont need to do much traveling and can in fact access the track by foot. Previously a domestic event, this year it will be open to international competitors for almost all electric on road classes in both 1/10th and 1/12th scale. Racers afraid of any fallout from the recent disasters in the country needn’t worry as the event is very far south away from any potential harm. Steven Cuypers and Uwe Baldes made it a Mugen 1-2 at the first round of the Western German Championship with Serpent racer Alain Levy completing the podium on third. It has been a really great race weekend at Dormagen near Cologne with a total of 39 1/8 scale racers in both classes. Since years the number of entries hasn’t been that high in the 1/8 scale category. The weather was just perfect all over the weekend but lots of farina made it difficult for the drivers especially at the beginning of the practice on Saturday when grip level was poor and cars turned to be covered by yellow farina. But finally grip increased and all racers got lots of practice over the day on the 273 meter long track which is known as “RC Monaco of Germany” because of its concrete walls and guard rails.

The first round of the German South Regional 1/10th 200mm Championship in 2011 took place last weekend at the fast and technical track of the MBC Bamberg. Few weeks after his move to Capricorn/Race-Center-Munzig it was the first race for Thomas Günsel with his Capricorn powered LAB-C01. In the opening practice on Saturday morning he showed a really good pace and was really close to the current track record. After five rounds of qualifying he was the only driver to manage 25 laps in 7.14 min to end up in front of Patrick Nähr and current European B Vice Champion Dirk Stammler.

Round 2 of the 2011 1/10th IC BRCA Nationals was held in glorious weather on the weekend of the 16th/17th April at the fantastic Halifax Circuit in Yorkshire. Adam Catchpole continued his excellent start into the season after finishing 2nd at the 1st Round of the Championship in Cotswolds. With a new lap record and a new qualifying record he claimed the pole-position for the 30-min main final. At the start he defended his first position and only dropped back to second during the first round of pitstops. When he regained the lead he never looked back and crossed the finishing line in first position. Second place went to Serpent driver Neal King, with another Shepherd driver Chris Steele taking a well deserved 3rd overall. In the 220mm GT class it was Peter Hastings who duly took the honours, making it a clean sweep for the Shepherd UK/DHModelsport Team at this weekend.

The 2011 New South Wales IC State Champs was held last weekend at Moorebank Raceway outside Sydney. Qualifying in the 1/8th scale class went the way of Capricorn driver Peter Jovanovic, with Serpent driver Ric Bartolozzi in 2nd, Steven Jovanovic in 3rd and Blake Young in 4th. In the final it was Bartolozzi that emerged the winner, taking the checkered flag 3 laps ahead of Capricorn racer Stewart Grant in 2nd and Mugen racer Ashley Seward given 3rd, following the disqualification of Legh Dytor from the position.

The first round of the Taiwanese on-road national championship was held last weekend at the Tainan GTR Racing Track and attracted close to 80 drivers in 3 different classes 1/10th GP, 1/8th GP and 1/10th EP. Serpent Taiwan driver Huang Yi-Hao took his S733 to the expert class TQ, setting a best lap time of 17.6 seconds, which would be a new class track record. He went on to take the win in the final ahead of Xray NT1 driver Howard Cho in 2nd with another Serpent S733, that of Ji-Chen Ton, in 3rd. The 1/8th GP class was won by top qualifier Wing Wang Sang-Chun ahead of Yang Chong Zha in 2nd and Shu Jhi Hao in 3rd, while in the 1/10th EP class it was Leo Chan who took victory from pole position, with Zen Wen-Pin in 2nd and Ron Chen in 3rd.
