Evans, Tebo, Maifield and Phend win at Nationals

IMG_0104

Finals day at the 2011 ROAR Nationals at Norcal Hobbies in California saw Top qualifier, Jared Tebo, made a very uncharacteristic mistake on the first lap of A1 in 4wd Modified Buggy. The Ryans made their way by with 4wd worlds TQ Ryan Maifield taking point. The teammates would tangle through the rhythm section, Cavalieri comes out ahead and they allow the Kyosho of Tebo to rejoin the battle for the lead. Maifield would retire early with electronics issues. Working his way up from the 6th position, Team Associated’s Steven Hartson capitalized on a crash by Tebo to pull into the 2nd position right behind leader, Cavalieri. Cavalieri would hold on to win, Hartson 2nd and top qualifier, Tebo 3rd.

Tebo, Evans, Lutz & Cavalieri secure Nationals top spots

Brian Kinwald

The legend, Brian Kinwald topped his 4th overall finish from Q3 with a TQ in round 4. Brian said he switched to a blue compound JConcepts tire this morning that made his Factory Team SC-10 handle much better. Clearly it was magic because Dirt will now sit 2nd on the grid for the mains just behind teammate Ryan Maifield. Kyosho’s youngster, Andy Dibrino drove his truck to a 2nd place finish putting him securely in the main. Travis Amezcua rounded out the top three for the fourth and final round of qualifying.

Maifield clinches 2wd SC TQ at ROAR nats

Ryan Maifield SC10 TQ

Ryan Maifield clinches TQ in 2wd Short Course Modified with his 3rd consecutive qualifying round win.  When I spoke with Ryan after his run he said no changes have been made to his truck. In fact, he is running the same setup from the Cactus Classic. His Factory Team SC-10 will be starting first on the grid for the triple A-mains and in perfect position to defend his title. The Anza Slash of Travis Amezcua had it’s best finish, second for the round, giving him a 2 and 3 for his top finishes. Third place for the round goes to TLR’s Dustin Evans. Dustin said he is “throwing the book” at his XXX-SCT to try and make it easier to drive in Q4.

2011 ROAR Electric Off-Road Nats – Round 2 update

Ryan Maifield

Dustin Evans found himself leading early in 2wd Short Course Modified Q2. Jared Tebo and Ryan Maifield made an early move to take over the top spots. Tebo looked to be in a commanding lead when Maifield had to make a quick pit stop to fix a body issue. Maifield came back out with some speedy laps and closed the gap to Jared. With two laps to go, Maifield passed up Jared to take the win and TQ for Q2. Ryan said his setup on his SC-10 is super easy to drive and doesn’t plan on making any big changes. I asked him about the track conditions and he thought it was a bit dustier and had slightly less traction. Ryan is off to a great start defending his National Title from last year.
