Cavalieri TQ’s penultimate qualifier

Cavalieri TQ's penultimate qualifier

Defending Champion Ryan Cavalieri claimed the first TQ run of his World Championship campaign as he steered his Associated to the top of the time sheets in Q4 ahead of fellow American factory heavyweight’s Dustin Evans and Jared Tebo who posted the fastest lap of the round.  The result means that we will have to wait until tomorrow morning’s fifth and final round of qualifying to determine who will be the overall Top Qualifier for the finals that will decide the 15th IFMAR 2WD Electric Offroad World Champion.  As it stands now with 4 of the 5 qualifiers complete the battle for pole position is between Tebo and Cavalieri, the latter winning the title in Finland 2-years ago from 2nd on the grid.

Bernd Hasselbring wins 200mm at 40+ Euros

Bernd Hasselbring wins 200mm at 40+ Euros

The EFRA Nitro On-Road 40+ European Championship took place at the famous La Turbie track in Monaco with its fast and flowing layout and the challenging bumps in the Parabolica corner. The practice sessions of the 1/10th 200mm class had Germany’s Hartmut Rose, Daniel Grosso (Monaco), Alexander Naumov (Russia) and Bernd Hasselbring (Germany) pulling the fastest laps and it was obvious that these drivers would be hot candidates to battle for the 40+ title. Come qualifying things looked a bit different as one or the other driver struggled to convert a single fast lap into consistent 5 minute runs.

Martin gets it done in Q2

Martin gets it done in Q2

Tamiya Racing Factory’s Lee Martin has TQ’d the second round of qualifying at the World Championships in Chico, California. Having suffered a problem with his slipper clutch in Q1, leaving him to post the fourth fastest time, the British ace had no such issues in the second 2WD qualifier, posting a new fastest time .9 of a second up on Q1 non-finisher Ryan Maifield and fellow countryman Darren Bloomfield.  For Q1 pace setter Jared Tebo a wrong choice of shock oil left the Kyosho driver to struggle, a mistake ultimately leaving him to finish outside the Top 10.

Jared Tebo

Kyosho’s Jared Tebo has TQ’d the opening round of qualifying at the 2WD Electric Buggy World Championship in Chico, California, where the Top 3 were separated by just 4/10ths at the end of 5-minutes with Dustin Evans second fastest and defending champion Ryan Cavalieri third. Two notable retirements from Q1 where Pre Worlds winner Ty Tessman, who posted the fastest lap of the round before he stripped a spur gear after his motor moved, and Associated’s Ryan Maified who didn’t even manage to complete a full lap breaking a front wishbone on his opening lap.

Worth the hype?

Worth the hype?

This week saw two pretty major events.  The first, the release of new software for a well-known mobile phone.  The second, the continued build up to the 2013 Electric Off-Road Worlds. OK, so those are somewhat different events, and the first likely one attracted slightly more world-wide interest than the second.  But, I believe there are actually a number of very strong comparisons we can make.  One of the big elements of the build up for the Worlds are the rumours surrounding the new 4-wheel drive cars from HB and TLR.  In a similar way to Apple’s latest Software release, all we’ve seen so far have been a few ‘teaser’ pictures, and some results from one of the cars in the hands of their expert driver.

Stuiver wins at Dutch champs, Rombouts champion

Stuiver wins at Dutch champs, Rombouts champion

The AMCA Apledoorn track saw the final round of the Dutch 1/10th nitro on-road championship. This time no Kyosho World Cup driver attended due to the KWC International Race but a couple of guests filled up the NK clas field nicely. Daan Stuiver finally got it together having a perfect weekend, just beating Pedro Rombouts to the pole in front of Julius Kolff. Sander Borghoff completed the top 4. In the final Daan took the gamble and selected a car that was good in the beginning of the race. Julius gambled as well but it did not work out for him. At the end Daan took the win one lap ahead of Pedro with Ruud Schuitemaker completing the podium. Milan Holthuis came in fourth, Julius Kolff completed the top 5. In the championship, it was between Roy Bakker and Pedro Rombouts. Pedro missed one race and had to end up in front of Roy Bakker while Roy had to finish five places in front of Pedro. Unfortunately Roy did not have the speed this weekend to challenge Pedro so the latter took the championship again.
