Billy Easton wins Lead Finger Anniversary Race

Billy Easton wins Lead Finger Anniversary Race

This past weekend was the First Annual LFR race at Space Coast R/C in Cocoa Beach, FL and Billy Easton provided this report. ‘The facility is the largest Indoor track in the state of Florida. They use Red Clay and prep it with grape soda and sugar. The traction is pretty intense and the layouts are always a blast.  Angel and his crew did a great job keeping the track up and the race program going. There were around 200 Entries for the event and 21 or so heats. It was a typical IFMAR qualification format with 2 quals and a single A-Main. There were a fair amount of sponsored drivers in attendance, Paul Wynn, Ryan Eckert, Daimon Borkowicz, Jeremy Harris, Jadar Lopez and a few others. This track has been the home of a lot of the testing and development of the Serpent SRX-2. I have several race days at this track to develop the car for durability and also performance. This was the largest race I have entered thus far.

µ-Pro bullet plugs & Super-12 AWG wire

µ-Pro bullet plugs & Super-12 AWG wire

With increasing power delivery from brushless motors and lithium polymer batteries, internal resistance of device-to-device interconnects and electrical contacts have become more critical parts for today’s R/C car racing. µ-Pro has targeted the market needs and come out with the male bullet plugs and the “Super-12” AWG wire.  The bullet plugs minimize contact resistance. They come in two sizes, with diameter ø4mm and ø5mm, these sizes working with the latest available lithium polymer batteries. The “Super-12” AWG wire claims to have a higher current density capability than ordinary 12 AWG wires available in the market.

Graupner & GM Racing brands live on

GMGeniusPro-2

2013 was looking to be a tough year for Graupner / GM-Racing after parent company Graupner GmbH & Co.KG went insolvent. From the ashes comes a new company Graupner/SJ GmbH which has been founded by SJ Incorporated. Having purchased some assets like the Graupner and GM-Racing brand names, well known and respected racer Ralf Helbing, who used to be the head of development, has now taken over control of Graupner’s business activities as its managing director. The first new GM/SJ products to hit the shelves will be the GM/SJ Race motor series as well as the new GM Genius Pro speedo which is currently being tested by team drivers and has already sparked a lot of interested amongst drivers and competitors. Expect those products very soon along with many more to come such as the X8-E high-level car radio with which it will be possible to change the speedo setup during a practice run without leaving the rostrum.

Rico Meuleman wins Belgian 1/5th series Rd1

Rico Meuleman wins Belgian 1/5th series Rd1

Last Sunday the Belgian 1/5th Championships got underway at the beautiful track of Racing Club Roeselare. The day started a bit grey but the track was dry. It was also cold and not easy to get the right temperature in the tyres. Curt Sonneville had a good setup and set the pace in the first qualifying session with a 30 lap run in 10 minutes, followed closely by Emmanuelle Vanhaesendonck in 2nd and Rico Meuleman in 3rd. As the day went on the weather got better with sun coming out in the afternoon while 2 qualifying sessions were still to be held. Despite the better conditions, the positions didn’t change. As the 30 minute final got underway Emmanuelle quickly overtook Curt to take the lead. Rico also overtook Curt some laps later to take second place and he was chasing Emmanuelle. After 15 minutes Emmanuelle was forced into an error due to some slower traffic and at that moment Rico took the lead. Emmanuelle tried to close the gap but Rico held that lead and won the race while Curt took 3rd.

Thanks to Christoph Vandepitte for the report.

Bruno Heremans wins Liege GP

Bruno Heremans wins Liege GP

The track at Liege, Belgium, is well known for its great clay surface, giant size, and awesome layouts, and the MRCL club did not disappoint for this year’s edition of the annual GP last weekend. The day started out chilly, then warmed up with just one brief shower mid-way through the program to hold down the dust. X-Factory team driver Bruno ‘Elvo’ Heremans was there bright and early with his brand new X-6 Cubed prototype for some early practice and it paid off. Elvo TQ’d every round of qualifying and ran away with all three legs of the A Main, setting fastest lap in every race. Martin Vierin took second with an X-6 Squared.
