VBC Racing Ghost scale spec touring car

VBC Racing Ghost spec class touring car

VBC Racing have introduced the Ghost scale spec, an all new platform designed for Scale Spec touring car class. The Ghost is essentially a competition touring car with some different materials to keep the costs down and as such has an ultra low CofG, a FRP 3mm chassis and 2mm upper deck that provide more linear flex response and better weight balance as well as a dual crank steering system with a low CofG design for better handling. In terms of materials there is full aluminium 7075 bulkheads, motor mount, turnbuckles and ball connectors and it comes with a front spool and rear gear differential. The floating aluminium 7075 center servo mount is standard equipment as are front and rear sway bars and aluminium 7075 shocks with TBB shock shaft and springs.

On the Grapevine – Hrotovice

On the Grapevine – Hrotovice

‘As they say, time flies when your having fun!!!’, that was how I ended my Facebook status update as I boarded my flight for a trip that would bring my travelings this year to just shy of 186,000Kms. The reason for this statement was because somehow I was on my way to the Czech Republic for the start of the seventh season of the Euro Touring Series despite the first stand alone ETS race being still as fresh a memory as if it had only taken place earlier this year. It is hard to believe that since that race in Vejle, Denmark, the International Speed Weekend in Kastellaun having counted as the opening round of the inaugural season, I have reported on another 32 ETS events!! With the biggest challenge for racers last time we visited Hrotovice being just getting there after snow forced the closure of Vienna Airport causing travel chaos, with yours truly getting stranded in a very cold Paris for a night with no jacket cause it was in my check in bag, thankfully this year things where much more straight forward.

JConcepts RC10 Classic carbon options

JConcepts RC10 Classic carbon options

The RC10, the most classic design in R/C history has been reintroduced to the public and available options parts are in high demand. JConcepts is spot on with the release of the new vehicle with Carbon Fiber options for the front and rear shock towers as well as the transmission brace. The stock vehicle comes standard with a fiberglass unit which carries all the original geometry; however, it lacks the pizzazz, strength and appearance that Carbon Fiber can provide. The new towers maintain the stock geometry and are reinforced with the rear tower offering additional adjustment holes while the new brace creates a more rigid assembly in each direction giving the racers a more solid feel in rear suspension and also resists chassis rear-end tweak and bending issues.

History Lessons

History Lessons

Through the past few months, one thing in the RC community that I’ve noticed is the emergence of ‘historical’ photos and anecdotes.  There really seems to be a buzz at the moment in looking back to old times and finding pictures and results from classic RC meetings.  It seems to have sparked those people who were racing RC cars back in the times before transponders  to start digging through their attic or garage to find their treasure troves of photographs back from the first meetings they entered, or the first major event they attended (or, in some cases, even won!).

Asmer does Pro Stock/Formula double at ETS

Asmer does Pro Stock/Formula double at ETS

Serpent driver Jan Asmer became the first double category race winner today when he took the overall win in both the Xray Pro Stock and Formula classes at the season opener of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in the Czech Republic.  Having already made ETS history yesterday when he TQ’d both classes, the final day of the Hrotovice event did not get off to a good start for the German but in the final round of A-Main he turned things around to win both of his A3 encounters to secure the top step on the podium.  A great start to the defense of his Formula title, the win in Pro Stock’s marks his first touring car win with him describing that race as the hardest 5-minutes he has experienced in racing.

Volker pulls off the perfect start to ETS Season #7

Volker pulls off the perfect start to ETS Season #7

Defending Yokomo Euro Touring Series Champion Ronald Volker pulled off the best start possible to Season #7, the Yokomo driver taking the overall win with another faultless win in Leg 2 of the A-Main in the Czech Republic. Chasing a fourth consecutive title in the World famous championship this season, the win is the German’s ninth ETS career win and the fourth year that he has won the season opener.  Having won Leg 1 from Marc Rheinard, he again headed home the Tamiya driver in Leg 2 with Yannic Prumper completing the Top 3.

Volker handed easy Leg 1 win

Volker handed easy Leg 1 win

Ronald Volker was handed a relatively easy win in the opening A-Main at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series this morning in the Czech Republic after the two drivers starting behind him clashed on the opening lap.  A coming together between Xray’s Alexander Hagberg and Awesomatix’s Freddy Sudhoff allowed Volker to take a 1.3 second win over Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard with Yokomo’s Naoto Matsukura completing the Top 3.

Volker is Top Qualifier for ETS season opener

Volker is Top Qualifier for ETS season opener

Ronald Volker is Top Qualifier for the opening round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series, the German putting the top spot on the grid beyond the reach of his rivals with another TQ run in the third of the four qualifiers.  The perfect start to the defense of his 3rd consecutive ETS title, the Yokomo driver again had to work hard to put his BD7 top of the time sheets with both Alexander Hagberg and Freddy Sudhoff in the mix.  Unfortunately for Hagberg a slower car ruined his chance of forcing the overall TQ to go down to the final round of qualifying in Hrotovice. Rolling his Xray Hagberg would end up sixth with a much improved Marc Rheinard completing the Top 3 for the round.
